Such was an occasion with the December 2014 issue of Pretty T Girls Magazine. It seems that the article in Tasi’s Fashion column was not one of her articles. Apparently in copying the article it accidently was placed in Tasi’s folder on my computer. I do apologize to Tasi and you for this error. In addition an error was made to Teri Lynn’s “Delusion or Confusion” Article in that a portion of the article was omitted from the print. I will publish the remainder of her article in this issue as a part 2. I do apologize to Teri Lynn for the error. Barbara Jean Publisher Pretty T Girls Magazine 2014 - A Bang Up Year? An Editorial By: Barbara Jean Wow, what a year 2014 has been. For the gays it was really a bang up year in that we went from only 13 states that allowed same sex couples to marry to now like 32 or 34. (to be honest, I really have lost count) I speculate that before this year 2015, is over we will see same sex marriage legal in all 50 of the states. If you are employed by the federal Government (except for military) or by a government contractor, by executive order of the president, companies cannot discriminate against you for being gay or transgender. For those who are in the military there may be a loophole that will still allow you to serve openly. For those of us who are transgender, a full third of the fortune 500 companies will now pay for transition related care including the surgery up to like $75,000. For veterans, the Veterans Administration has become more trans friendly when it comes to medical care. Some veterans may well see the VA paying for their surgery. HRC president Chad Griffin apologized to the transgender community for the way HRC has treated the transgender in the past. Lavern Cox has been working to educate people about the transgender. The republicans have taken control of both the house and the senate in this last election and this means there is very little chance of ENDA getting passed at least until after our next national election. While 5 most states do not have a nondiscrimination ordinance, more and more cities have passed them. Still in a couple of those cities the ordinance is being opposed and may well go before the people to determine if they will stand. Many schools and colleges have initiated transgender friendly policies with a number of women’s colleges now accepting applications from transwomen. These policies as a general rule do include bathrooms for the gender we present rather than biological sex and private facilities are being made for showers and changing. Many colleges have installed/or modified many restrooms to be gender neutral. Southern Comfort Conference announced that it is moving from Atlanta to South Florida. A few states have initiated laws that allow the birth certificate to be changed without the prior need for surgery, and California was the first state to pass a law that requires death certificates to reflect our gender rather than biological sex. But the picture is not all rosy. With gays and lesbians being more and more accepted by society, we the transgender have become the target of the hate groups. False claims are being made to keep us from using the restroom for other than our biological sex, and this past year we have lost 200 of our brothers and sisters to hate. Reports read that the highest percentage of hate crimes are toward the transgender. In England it was reported that hate crimes against the transgender rose 45%. In the United States, physical violence against the transgender rose 21%. Despite gains in nondiscrimination laws, still one survey found that 20% of the transgender were unemployed and only 37% were employed full time. Studies show that LGBT workers face unfair discrimination. While much has been accomplished during 2014, it remains clear that there is still much work to be done. Better enforcement of non discrimination laws, more shelters for our brothers and sisters who are homeless, and more education of the public about the transgender. Will 2015 be a bang up year for the transgender? Tune in this time next year to find out. 6 Delusion or Confusion? Fetish or Fulfillment? Part 2 by: Teri Lynn (editors note: This is the portion of the article that was ommited from the December issue) Their goal is to satisfy their fantasies. If, for example, someone has a fetish for panties, they obviously can't go out in public wearing only panties. To heighten their excitement, these folks carelessly just throw on some feminine clothes. They may or may not slap on some make-up and/or lipstick and head out to the Mall for a personal thrill. That thrill comes from knowing that as a man, they are out in public wearing panties - nothing else matters to them. Sorry, but I think that these folks harm our cause to be accepted as CD's/TG's. The second reason for cross-dressing is that the person has inner feelings of femininity and desires/needs to, express those feelings so that they can find fulfillment. I call these CD's the "true crossdressers”. These are the folks who take extreme care to ensure that they immolate femininity, rather than mock it. They enjoy wearing everything feminine that a GG (genetic girl) wears. They want to feel totally feminine. They want to look totally feminine. They will do their best to act totally feminine. The true cross-dresser will have that classy feminine look which commands respect, if not approval. Whether they get "read" or not, the true cross-dresser helps to promote the TG cause. The question that you have to ask yourself is this - Are you under the delusion that you are "passing" because no one is looking at you; or are you confused by everyone looking at you, thinking that they all know you're a CD? Are you interested in only fulfilling a fetish-fantasy, or are you seeking to feel fulfilled as a woman? If you are seeking to portray yourself as a woman, how well have you prepared yourself to that end? Your effort can prevent both delusion and confusion. Enjoy your feminine moments and, if ready, be proud to let the world see you as the woman you wish to be. 7 On “Passing” As A Woman by: Dana Taylor Right up front I will tell you that I cringe when I hear passing as a woman in relation to a trans woman. What this really means is passing as a cisgender woman. A real woman, right? We see this all of the time in trans* related support forums where trans* women give advice to other trans* women on how to look like a woman. It is all based on the oppressive sex stereotype of what a woman is supposed to look like. This is what makes the patriarchy happy. They want all women to meet certain stereotypical criteria which includes how you look, smell, walk, talk, etc. We should never tell our sisters that they must meet this criteria to be a woman. Even though you may think you are trying to help this person you may actually be causing damage to them. For instance, there are some trans* women who have physical male characteristics that will never allow them to meet the passing criteria. I am one of those women. If I had listened to a lot of advice from trans* women on being a woman, I am not sure where I would be today. It is difficult enough to come out and try to be who you are than to have all these other requirements put on you. This can cause some trans* women who are not out yet to never come out thinking there is no way they could pass. And we all know what that could lead to. We are painfully aware of the attempted suicide statistics in our community. A woman is a woman who makes her own choices on how she wants to look, dress, smell or anything else that has to do with her own body.
