Here are some of the events you might want to attend. Mark your calendar and come out and celebrate with your island friends. LAKE ERIE ISLANDS CONSERVANCY POTLUCK Put-in-Bay Gazette - Mon., Dec. 10th - 6 p.m. The Lake Erie Islands Conservancy is excited to announce that they will be holding Kendra & Jeff Koehler their annual LEIC Christmas party back at the South Bass Island Lighthouse on Mon- day, December 10th, at 6 p.m. They want to thank their partner, The Ohio State Univer- sity Stone Laboratory, for this opportunity. Ham, hot cider and coffee will be provided. Please bring a side dish or dessert to share. As they are a Conservancy, they ask that you bring your own plate and table service for the festive evening. They will have a social hour first with a sparkling grape juice toast. Please bring any other nonalcoholic bever- age you would like for the evening. HOLIDAY BUFFET WITH SANTA - Sun., Dec. 16th - 2 p.m. The Put-in-Bay Recreation Committee is hosting “A Holiday Buffet with Santa” on Sunday, December 16th, at 2 p.m. upstairs at the Town Hall. Enjoy a holiday buffet and dessert, plus a visit from Santa. Catch up with friends while the children anxiously await the arrival of Santa and his sleigh full of surprises! Santa knows about the children enrolled at Put-in-Bay School and the Island babies. If you are bringing an off-island child, please call Heidi Ladd (704) 516-3616 ASAP! The annual Lighting Contest is sponsored by the Put-in-Bay Recreation Committee. Ray Fogg Show AUDUBON CHRISTMAS BIRD COUNT - Sun., Dec. 16th warning: dangerously fun! For 119 years, wildlife enthusiasts have been counting birds at Christmas time. This citizen science effort has given us data on changing bird populations-and is great fun! Birders everywhere will be out looking and counting during this count week time. If you want to be part of this historical event, here is how locally. December The Annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count will be held in the Lake Erie Islands 7 Fri, Key West, FL, 4pm @ Rick’s Cafe Count Circle on Sunday, December 16, 2018. Participants will be needed on Kelleys, 202 Duval St. Pelee, and the Bass Islands that day. On South Bass, we need volunteers to listen for owls in the early morning, travel the island bird watching during the day, and to watch January their feeders at home. Patrick Myers will broadcast the games live on WPIB. com. Just tune in starting a noon on Friday. Check the Live TV tab and go from there. There will a total of 6 Panther games over the two days. In May of this year, a Letter of Intent was signed by a majority of the three DeRivera Park Trustees to sell Cooper’s Woods to the Lake Erie Islands Conservancy. On September 6, 2018, the LEIC has received a large grant from the Conservation Fund toward the purchase of Cooper’s Woods. On October 25, 2018, a conditional purchase agreement was signed between the DeRi- vera Park Trustees and the Lake Erie Islands Conservancy (LEIC.) On November 14, 2018, the Clean Ohio Conservation Fund awarded the LEIC the grant funds needed for the second half of the purchase price for Cooper’s Woods and pay for the necessary purchase expenses! There are still have some conditions to meet for DeRivera Park and for the granting agencies before the sale is finalized.
