Florida College System Activities Association Abbreviated Report to the Council of Presidents April 11, 2019 Academic Divisions Brain Bowl: FCSAA State Tournament was March 28-30, 2019, at State College of Florida. State Champion: Chipola College Gold Team State Runner Up: Broward College A Team Coach of the Year: Stan Young, Chipola College Tournament High Point Scorer: John Gross, Gulf Coast State College All-Tournament Team: John Gross, Gulf Coast State College Joseph Hayes, Chipola College Gold Team Jasmin Singh, Valencia College Teerthe Bhattachary, Northwest Florida State College Eric Fowler, Northwest Florida State College Dallin Kelson, Chipola College, and Paul Cajka, State College of Florida, were inducted into the FCSAA Hall of Fame at this event. 2018-2019 Brain Bowl State Advisor is Christina Dwyer, State College of Florida. 2019-2020 Brain Bowl State Advisor will be James Givvines, Florida Gateway College. Student Government: SGA’s year end conference is April 12-13, 2019, at Hillsborough Community College. At this conference, the students will be electing their 2019-2020 slate of officers. Mauricio Garcia, Seminole State College, and Mikel James, College of Central Florida, will be inducted into the FCSAA Hall of Fame at this event. Student Government State Advisor is Stephen Tomasovitch, St. Johns River State College. Athletics Division Women’s Basketball: Congratulations to the Gulf Coast State College Lady Commodores, the 2019 NJCAA Division I National Champions. This is coach Roonie Scoval’s 6th national championship with GCSC. Kudos to all six teams who made it to the national stage including the Gulf Coast, Northwest Florida and Florida SouthWestern women and the Northwest Florida, Eastern Florida and Florida SouthWestern men. Upcoming Tournaments: Women’s Tennis: April 12-14, 2019, Sanlando Park, Altamonte Springs Women’s Softball: May 2-5, 2019, Soldier’s Creek Park, Longwood Men’s Baseball: May 10-14, Joker Marchant Stadium, Lakeland *Bill Hamilton, Pensacola State College, will be inducted into the FCSAA Hall of Fame at this event.
