There are press clippings from The Straits Times on the vote of confidence for the Government after Lee Kuan Yew accused the British government and the UK Commissioner of plotting with the Communist Left to overthrow it, 21 Jul 1961, and on the meeting at Eden Hall, 13 Aug 1961; on the resignation of Buang Omar Junid as Secretary-General of the Singapore Employees' Union, 25 Jul 1961; on the expulsion of Lim Chin Siong, Fong Swee Suan, Lee Siew Choh and S. Woodhull from the PAP, 25 Jul 1961; and on the formation of the Barisan Socialis, 27 and 30 Jul 1961. Includes press clippings on the split in the Trade Union Congress in Jul 1961; the merger issue, Jul to Sept 1961; and on the dismissal of Chan Sun Wing and Sheng Nam Chin as Legislative Assemblymen and members of the People's Association, 5 Aug 1961. Also contains press clippings entitled "Puthucheary writes .... what caused the break with PAP", 21 Aug 1961; on the "Nature of the challenge the MCP poses", 16 Sept 1961; on "Keep close watch on Barisan.
