MUNICIPALITY OF PAGLAT HISTORY The municipality of Paglat was created out of four (4) barangays and formerly four (4) sitios of the Municipality of General Salipada K. Pendatun of the Province of Maguindanao on July 9, 2001 by virtue of Muslim Mindanao Autonomy Act No. 112. The Act was signed by then Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) Regional Governor Nur P. Misuari. The Municipality is bounded between the Municipalities of Gen. Salipada K. Pendatun of the West, Datu Paglas on the East, Datu Montawal on the North, and Pandag on the South. In the Notheast are the Municipalities of Tulunan and Mlang and on the Southwest is the Municipality of President Quirino of Sultan Kudarat. Paglat is a 5th class Municipality with a land area of 17, 753.40 hectares, which is subdivided into eight (8) barangays. Almost 67% of its land area is agricultural and the lakes/marsh/swamp area comprises 14% of the total land area. The other portions of land in the Municipality are settlement (6%), forest (4%), grazing/pasture are (4%), rivers/creeks (2%) and the rest are roads/Municipal site (3%). The Municipality of Paglat is relatively flat although some areas are gently sloping with the slope ranging from 2 percent to 5 percent. The plan and gently sloping areas are suited for agricultural crops and the marshy areas are good for fishing ground. Part of Ligawasan Marsh belongs to the municipality. Owing to its fertile sandy loam and clay loam soil and the marsh, the municipality produces an indigenous Paglat Kawilan Organic Rice as part of its “One Town-One Product” program, and other products such as yellow corn, soybeans, peanuts, sweet potato, coconut, rubber, sugar cane, citrus, palm oil, banana cardava, sugar cane, vegetables, fresh water fish, native products, livestock and poultry. Based on the 2007 Census, Paglat has a population of 23, 432. Barangay Damakling accounted for the largest share or 23.25% of the population. Paglat has a population density of 1.32 people per hectare. There is a light predominance of the male population over the female population in Paglat. Of the total population, 47.08% or 11,032 were males and 52.92% or 12,400 were females. This gives a sex ratio of 89 males per 100 females. For the CY-2016, the LGU ha a total income of P50, 152, 560.00 from Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) and local sources. This has been carefully budgeted based on the rules and regulations stipulated by the Department of Budget and Management. .
