We look forward to greeting each of you! We are grateful to program chair Jonathan Patti Adams Keeble, who has spent the past two years creating this high-energy whirlwind of events for all of us to enjoy. His imaginative planning, organizational skills, and great humor through it all have been wondrous to behold. We thank him, the local volunteer committee in Kansas City, and all of the NFA’s innumerable and indefatigable volunteer committees who, with their remarkable work throughout the year, have made this convention possible. Have you ever experienced the exhibit hall at our conventions? It is an amazing F6 vortex of sights and sounds, with displays from the world’s finest flute manufacturers, music publishers, and innovators. These exhibitors are showcasing for you the latest technological marvels of our industry, and we are grateful to each of them for their participation. In the exhibit hall, you’ll also find my N’Awlins neighbors, exhibits manager extraordinaire, Jim Magee, and his assistant, Patti McCleney. Their professionalism and dedication to our conventions is extraordinary and invaluable to our success; we couldn’t do this convention without them! Please make plans to join us at Saturday’s Fundraising Dinner! This year, we are celebrating the careers and accomplishments of three very distinguished colleagues: Jim Walker and Bickford Brannen, recipients of the NFA Lifetime Achievement Award, and Gerald Carey, who will be receiving the NFA Service Award. The cost of your ticket will fund not only great food, laughter, and camaraderie, but the NFA’s Endowment Fund at the same time. The Myrna Brown Society Dinner on Thursday evening, a great longstanding NFA tradition, is a wonderful opportunity to meet and greet over a fabulous meal at one of Kansas City’s great restaurants. Check out the details at the registration desk. The NFA’s staff, our very own F6 forces of nature, are tireless in their efforts to make your convention experience unforgettable and affordable. Led by CEO Phyllis Pemberton, the staff—convention director Madeline Neumann, membership director Maria Stibelman, Webmaster Brian Covington, and publications director Anne Welsbacher—accomplishes wonders throughout the year, keeping everything on track,on time, and on budget. They will be front and center here at the con- vention, welcoming you and your ideas for the NFA’s future. Throughout the convention, you’ll be seeing members of the board of directors: at a concert, in the exhibit hall, in the elevator, at a restaurant; you’ll know us by our lapel pins: “Talk To Me!” Please take a moment to say hello and let us know what you think about the NFA, the convention, and how we can make the NFA even better for you. Enjoy the convention and, as we say in my hometown,“Laissez les bons temps roule”!
