The school’s expansion was approved and funded by the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead, following the growing popularity of the school and the good Ofsted grading, which the school maintained following their recent inspection in September. Mrs Gill Newman, Cox Green School’s Business Manager was heavily involved in the project from conception, and worked closely with the Contractors to deliver a state of art Dining Area and kitchen, 8 Maths classrooms, 2 Science laboratories and 2 new Changing Rooms. Thanks must also go to the school site team who were heavily involved in getting the areas furnished and ready for the students return in September. The £5.2m project was completed by Dawnus Construction on budget and to time, and is especially important to Mr Paul Kenny, Project Manager as it was his final project before retirement. Mr Kenny commented, "It was a wonderful project to be involved in and especially as it was also my swansong project before retirement. Great people to be working with from clients to project managers to school managers and school staff, and special thanks to the Dawnus team members who helped deliver this prestigious project well ahead of programme so as the school could occupy before the term start. Gill did a fantastic job selecting colours, materials and finishes which brought the project together in the marvellous quality palette you see before you. “ Councillor Dudley, whose cabinet approved the funding, joined us to celebrate, saying “It has been fantastic to see Cox Green School go from strength to strength over the last few years. As Maidenhead grows and regenerates, we have been determined to expand our best local secondary schools and upgrade their facilities. Today thanks to this investment, the school has the facilities it deserves.” The building has been extremely well received by students and staff who appreciate the modern teaching spaces and new canteen area. Not only is there a wider variety of food due to the larger kitchen, Year 12 students Alice and Holly feel that “The project has provided a study focussed environment that inspires and motivates, and the air exchange technology in the new Maths classrooms keep oxygen at an optimum level which helps us stay focussed and ready to learn.” Headteacher Ms Frances Walsh is thrilled with the finished result and commented, “I would like to thank all of the students and staff who have coped admirably over the past year with the impact of the building work and we are now in a position to enjoy the rewards. Our school is oversubscribed year on year and is testimony to the supportive and inspiring learning environment that we provide.” 3 Youth Voice Our Year 8 students recently wrote a bid to submit to the ‘Youth Voice, Youth Choice’ awards run by RBWM. They very successfully won the bid and have received £1000 for the school to purchase tablets for the Technology department which will allow them to carry out mobile research and design around the school. The students wrote a speech of acceptance and presented this at the awards ceremony at the Marlow Road Youth Centre. They were incredibly nervous standing up in front of a room of people but they delivered the speech with outstanding professionalism. Congratulations to the students and we look forward to entering another bid next year. 4 School Uniform Unfortunately we have had an increasing number of students arriving at school who are not dressed appropriately or adhering to the uniform regulations. This is picked up at the Line Up before form time by tutors, meaning students are starting the day with a negative interaction which could be easily avoided. In many circumstances this results in poor behaviour for the rest of the day. Please support us by ensuring your child is wearing the correct uniform— including the correct colour coat (black or navy blue) and shoes. Trainers are not permitted. The school uniform shop is open on Wednesdays 3.15pm to 4.15pm Uniform can also be purchased online and these orders are fulfilled in the school shop. This allows an easy option for your child to pick up uniform purchased and paid for online. We accept cash and credit/ debit cards in the school shop. Online orders will be processed at the school shop during the term time opening hours, therefore please allow three to five working days for your order to be processed. Once you receive an email advising you that your order has been completed, you can then collect your order from the School Shop during term time opening hours. If not collected the next time the shop is open after your online purchase, we will leave the parcel at School Reception for pick up at your convenience. As all stock is held at the school shop, any items for exchange or return should be taken to the school shop for processing the exchange or refund. 5 Ho! Ho! Ho! Christmas Dinner for Everyone! To celebrate the opening of our new dining room our caterers “Innovate” have made the fantastic offer to provide a free Christmas dinner to every student in the school. Managers Mr Burrows and Mr Aston were delighted with the win The University of Buckingham Trip A group of Year 11 students had a fantastic trip to the University of Buckingham on Thursday 13th December. The students participated in Sports/Operating Theatre sessions, toured the university to see the amazing facilities and ended the day with a personality profile session. Thank you to Ms McKay for a well organised and fun event. 7 Additional Lockers The school has created space for additional lockers. All students on the waiting list have been allocated one of these new lockers and should have received a letter from their form tutor. Please ensure that the rental is paid via sQuid and the reply slip is returned by 19th December otherwise the locker may be re-allocated to another student.
