DIVISION I WOMEN’S INDOOR TRACK CHAMPIONSHIPS RECORDS BOOK 2018 Championship 2 History 6 All-Time Team Results 19 2018 CHAMPIONSHIP HIGHLIGHTS Georgia dominates the field to earn Indoor Track & Field National Title:The Georgia women’s track and field team earned the Bulldogs its first team national championship at the NCAA Indoor Championships in College Station, Texas. Powered by two national individual champions and nine scorers, the Lady Bulldogs tallied a program record 61 points to finish in front of Arkansas (49), Kentucky (34) and Florida (32) in the team standings. This marks Georgia’s fifth straight top-three finish at the NCAA indoor meet, including the team’s runner-up finish in 2017. Becoming just the second competitor in history to win three NCAA indoor women’s triple jump titles, senior Keturah Orji traveled the eighth-longest distance in collegiate history of 46 feet, 10 inches to give Georgia its second NCAA individual title of the meet. Kate Hall was the first Georgia team member to win a 2018 NCAA individual title after leading the charge on a historic 1-2-3 finish in the women’s long jump. In addition, Orji and Tara Davis (long jump), sophomore Louisa Grauvogel (pentathlon) and sophomore Jessica Drop (5000m) all finished in one of the top eight scoring spots to score on day one. Georgia wasn’t the only team to make history at the meet though. New Hampshire earned its first individual national title from Elinor Purrier in the mile run. Purrier finished with a time of 4:31.76 as she held off a charging Dani Jones from Colorado over the final steps of the race. This was the closest finish at the NCAA meet in the mile since 1991 as Jones finished in 4:31.82. There are new record holders in the 60, 200, and 400 meter dash races as well as the pole vault and triple jump. LSU’s Aleia Hobbs barely beat the old 60-meter dash record by .02 with a time of 7.07 to win her first national title. Gabrielle Thomas of Harvard took home the 200-meter dash national title in record setting fashion with a time of 22.38, beating the old record by .02 as well. Southern California’s Kendall Ellis set a new record in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.34 to earn her first national title. In the field events, Alexis Jacobus of Arkansas dominated the field and smashed the old pole vault meet record by over 3 meters. Jacobus was one of two Razorbacks to stand on the podium in pole vault as her teammate Victoria Hoggard finished in second. Karissa Schweizer of Missouri swept both the 3,000 and 5,000-meter run. Schweizer won her second 5,000 meter national title as she successfully defended her title from 2017. Other individual national champions include: Sabrina Southerland of Oregon (800m), Payton Chadwick of Arkansas (60m hurdles), Nicole Greene of North Carolina (high jump), Maggie Ewen of Arizona State (shot put), Kaitlyn Long of Minnesota (weight throw) and Taliyah Brooks of Arkansas (pentathalon). Southern California took the 4x400-meter relay, while Oregon wn the distance medley relay. 2018 Championship 2 TEAM RESULTS 20 Auburn 11 FIU 4 Colorado 11 N.C.
