September 2010 ODIN TEATRET ARCHIVES (CTLS) FONDS CRISTINA WISTARI FORMAGGIA Documents and audio-visual materials Summary of Inventory (compiled by Francesca Romana Rietti and Mirella Schino, starting in February 2009) Cristina Wistari Formaggia, 1945-2008, lived in Bali from 1983. Previously she had travelled lengthily throughout Asia and studied Kathakali in Kerala. In Bali she studied Balinese dance with one of the principal dancers and masters, I Made Djimat. From 1995 she collaborated with Odin Teatret in various sessions of the International School of Theatre Anthropology (ISTA). She died on 20 July 2008 (lung and liver cancer). Cf. Cristina Wistari Formaggia edited Gambuh Drama Tari Bali, Djakarta, Lontra, 2000, the main publication on this subject in Indonesian. The contributors were: Adrian Vickers, I Nyoman Rembang, I Nyoman Sudiana, Wayne Vitale and Maria Cristina Wistari Formaggia. The Fonds Cristina Wistari Formaggia has been donated to Odin Teatret by her heirs after Cristina Wistari Formaggia’s death in 2008. It consists of only one series, Series Bali. Cristina Wistari Formaggia has left her books on Asian Theatre and Western theatre and dance to Odin Teatret’s library. Series Bali There is only one series, but an important one. It consists mostly of audio-visual materials about Balinese theatre, notes, preparatory materials for the book on Gambuh and working notebooks. Binder 3 is particularly interesting with its vast collection of audio-visual materials about Gambuh.
