Stephanie Allainis an Award-Winning

Stephanie Allain is an award-winning producer who has championed visionary filmmakers of color and women for more than twenty years. She began her career at 20th Century Fox as a Story Analyst. As a Creative Executive at Columbia Pictures, she brought in John Singleton’s Boyz N The Hood, a critical and commercial success that earned Singleton two Oscar Nominations. At the studio she rose to the post of Senior VP of Production, supervising a slate of diverse films including Poetic Justice, Higher Learning, The Craft, Robert Rodriguez’ El Mariachi and Darnell Martin’s I Like It Like That. After a brief stint as President of Jim Henson Pictures where she produced Muppets From Space, Elmo in Grouchland and Good Boy, she formed Homegrown Pictures and produced celebrated directorial debuts including Craig Brewer’s, Hustle & Flow, Sanaa Hamri’s, Something New, Tina Gordon Chism’s, Peeples, Justin Simien’s Dear White People, Wade & Jesse Allain- Marcus’ French Dirty and Gerard McMurray’s Burning Sands. Other credits include Biker Boyz, Black Snake Moan, and Beyond the Lights. She is currently in post on Leimert Park, a Macro Digital Series created and directed by Mel Jones. She serves as Executive Producer on Netflix Original Series, Dear White People, created by Justin SImien will stream on Netflix in April. Ms. Allain served as Director of the LA Film Festival from 2012-2016 where she put the focus on films directed by women and filmmakers of color. For many years she sat on the board of Film Independent, acting as a mentor for its signature program, Project Involve. She is a member of the Producers Branch of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, WGA and PGA. She sits on the board of Women in Film and is a founding member of the gender parity project ReFrame. She taught producing at USC’s Peter Stark Program and UCLA’s Entertainment Studies Division. She lives with her husband, composer Stephen Bray, in Los Angeles. Their adult children are all working artists. .
