Chandigarh welcomes ‘Monnet Go for Gold’ torch Chandigarh, March 7, 2012: ‘Monnet Go for Gold’, an initiative by Sandeep Jajodia led Monnet Ispat & Energy Limited (MIEL) - a flagship company of the Monnet Group today reached Chandigarh also known as ‘The City Beautiful’. The ‘Monnet Go for Gold’ contingent, was today received amidst a lot of fanfare in the city by Mr. Sandeep Jajodia, Executive Vice Chairman and Managing Director, Monnet Ispat & Energy Limited, Mr. Rana Sodhi, President, Chandigarh Olympic Association, Mr. Ravinder Talwar, Secretary General, Chandigarh Olympic Association, Ms. Ruby Dhall, Canadian Politician, Indian Boxer Suranjoy Singh and Chief Coach of Indian boxing team -Mr. G.S. Sandhu. The Monnet Go for Gold initiative was flagged off in Jammu on 1st March 2012 by the Honorable Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir, Mr. Omar Abdullah, to kick start a historic crusade of 12 budding athletes carrying a symbolic torch for over 6000 kms across 50 cities with an endeavour to unite India for a common cause, to cheer for the nation’s glory in the most awaited global sporting event, the 2012 London Olympics this year. The initiative aims to spread the spirit of sportsmanship in a nation, which has been working hard to mark its significant presence on the global map for sports. It is an initiative to infuse a culture of sportsmanship in the youth of the nation and help build a country that will excel in the global sporting arena in the long run. The contingent’s next big stop will be Delhi; from there they will head towards the eastern part of the country passing through cities like Agra, Allahabad, Bodhgaya, Dhanbad and Bhubaneswar. “It was a great moment for all of us to flag off the Monnet Go for Gold initiative from Jammu earlier this month, and the way Chandigarh has welcomed these 12 budding athletes, only strengthens our belief that India is gearing up in full strength to show its support to all our Olympic bound athletes. This initiative is a small step towards encouraging not only the Indian contingent but also the youth of the country to take up sports as a career. For long we have struggled to produce world class athletes but the recent past has thrown a different picture in front of us and I believe that the time for change has arrived and Monnet Go for Gold is just our way to show faith in the capabilities of our Olympic bound athletes”, said Mr. Sandeep Jajodia, Executive Vice Chairman & Managing Director, Monnet Ispat & Energy Limited welcoming the contingent. Monnet Ispat & Energy Limited is also the proud sponsors of the Indian Boxing team whose four boxers have already qualified for the upcoming 2012 London Olympics.
