What's happening at Thian Hock Keng? Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara (Guan Yin) Renunciation Day Goddess of Mercy Guan Yin Renunciation Day ( 观 世 音 菩 萨 出 家 日 ), the day She became a nun, falls on the 19th day of the 9th Lunar month 农 历 九 月 十 九 (7 Nov 2017). Thian Hock Keng celebrates this day with Buddhist prayer rituals. The temple has Lamps of Blessings for devotees to offer for one's good fortune and well- being. That evening at 8pm, Siong Leng Musical Association ( 湘 灵 音 乐 社 ) will put up traditional Nanyin performances in the temple. Admission is free. Click here for more information. Restoration & Maintenance of A Monument - Thian Hock Keng Over the last few decades, Thian Hock Keng has undergone several restoration and repair works, and ensured proper maintenance of this iconic monument. Major restoration works were carried out in 1981, 1998 and 2011. Works carried out from 1998 to 2001 was extensive and cost more than SGD 3.8 million. In 2001, the temple received several awards including the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation (Honourable Mention). Today, Thian Hock Keng transcends race, religion and dialect boundaries. Its visitors and worshippers come from all over the world and all walks of life. It is a rare "living" monument that duly reflects our society and its development. Traditional Chinese Court Dance (六佾舞) Thian Hock Keng celebrated Confucius' birthday on 15 & 16 Oct 2017. Part of the ceremony included a traditional Chinese Court Dance performed by dancers from the Singapore Chinese Dance Theatre.
