Consumer Price Index in the Month of Khordad of the Year 13991 Increase in National Point-to-Point Inflation Rate Point-to-Point Inflation rate refers to the percentage change in the price index in comparison with the corresponding month in the previous year. The point-to-point inflation rate in the month of Khordad2 of the year 1399 stood at 22.5 percent, that is to say that the national households spent, on average, 22.5 percent higher than the month of Khordad of the year 1398 for purchasing “the same goods and services”. Moreover, in this month, the point-to-point inflation rate experienced a 1.5 percentage point increase in comparison with the previous month (Ordibehesht, the year 1399). The point-to-point inflation rate for the major groups of "food, beverages and tobacco" and "non-food items and services" were 14.9 percent (with a 2.9 percentage point increase) and 26.4 percent (with a 0.7 percentage point increase), respectively. This is while the point-to-point inflation rate for urban households stood at 22.7 percent which has increased by 1.4 percentage points in comparison with the previous month. Moreover, this rate was 21.1 percent for rural households which increased by 1.8 percentage points in comparison with the previous month. Decrease in the Monthly National Households Inflation Rate The monthly inflation rate refers to the percentage change in the price index in comparison with the previous month. The monthly inflation rate in the month of Khordad of the year 1399 stood at 2.0 percent, which decreased by 0.5 percentage points in comparison with the previous month (Ordibehesht, the year 1399). The monthly inflation rate for the major groups of "food, beverages and tobacco" and "non-food items and services" were 2.4 and 1.8 percent, respectively. 1It is the Iranian year which usually begins on the day of 21 March of the Gregorian calendar. This rate was 2.2 percent for rural households which has increased by 0.1 percentage points in comparison with the previous month. Decrease in the Annual National Households Inflation Rate The annual inflation rate refers to the average percentage change in the price index in a year ending the current month in comparison with the same period in the previous year. The annual national household inflation rate for the month of Khordad in the year 1399 stood at 27.8 percent which decreased by 2.0 percentage points in comparison with the previous month (Ordibehesht, the year 1399). This is while the annual inflation rate for urban households is 27.7 percent which has decreased by 2.0 percentage points in comparison with the previous month. This rate was 28.2 percent for rural households indicating a 2.6 percentage point decrease in comparison with the previous month. In the major group of "non-food items and services", the highest increase in prices went to “ Recreation and culture” group (computer equipment, sports clubs membership), “ Furnishings, household equipment” group (household appliances and kitchen utensils) and “ Health and treatment” group (different kinds of drug and doctor visit fee) compared with the previous month. Moreover, the “ Vegetables” group (onion, potato, and tomato) and the average price of one cubic of gas for household consumption have experienced a decrease in comparison with the previous month (Ordibehest, the year 1399). Price Index Percentage Change in the National Expenditure Deciles in the Current Month The range of annual inflation rate in the month of Khordad of the year 1399 for various expenditure deciles was fluctuating between 25.8 percent for the first decile (those with the lowest income) and 30.0 percent for the tenth decile (those with the highest income).
