It is built from scratch; meaning all storage, backup, and disaster recovery functions communicate with each other as one solution, regardless of where the data resides. This enables customers to consistently manage their hybrid cloud environment and to improve resiliency by writing backups directly to Amazon S3, Amazon Standard-Infrequent Access (Standard-IA), or Glacier. For secure, durable storage for long-term archiving and backup, Commvault integrates with Amazon Glacier (Amazon S3 is the vehicle through which organizations restore and access data on Amazon Glacier). Commvault helps organizations tier storage costs according to the Service Level Agreement (SLA) profile of the data, application, or service that is being backed up or based on configurable AWS lifecycle policies. This is true for on-premises storage being backed up to the AWS Cloud, as well as backups that are automatically tiered from Amazon S3 to Amazon Glacier. Commvault software supports AWS Snowball, a secure petabyte-scale data transport solution, to migrate large amounts of data into AWS. Automated snapshot management integrates multiple tools, including hardware snapshots, to automate the archival and recovery of emails.
