This approval will expire on July 9, 2019. The proposed work, as approved, consists of the removal of a chain link fence and gates at the property line between the school building and the neighboring building along Carmine Street, and the installation of a new 10 ft tall sliding metal gate and fence, as shown in three unlabeled and undated presentation boards prepared by Richard Perry architect, submitted as components of the application and presented at the Public Hearing and Meeting of July 9, 2013. In reviewing this proposal, the Commission noted that the Greenwich Village Historic District II designation report describes 29 Carmine Street as a vacant lot adjacent to Church of Our Lady of Pompeii at 17-25 Carmine Street (aka 234-246 Bleecker Street and 2-10 Leroy Street) as a neo-Renaissance/Baroque style church, school, rectory and convent, designed by Matthew Del Gaudio and built c.1926-28 and 27 Carmine Street, a 5 story brick building built in 1965. The Commission further noted that this vacant lot is used for car parking and as a playfield by these institutions and that a chain link fence and gates existed at the time of designation. With regard to this proposal, the Commission found that the removal of the chain link fence and gates will not result in the loss of a significant architectural or historic feature of the site; that the proposed metal gates are simple in design and will align with the street walls of adjacent properties; that the height of the gates will not overwhelm the site, and will not exceed the height of the storefronts to the west; and that the presence of the wrought iron sliding gate will not call undue attention to itself in the streetscape. Based on these findings, the Commission determined the proposed work to be appropriate to the building and the Greenwich Village Historic District II and voted to approve it. The Commission authorized the issuance of a Certificate of Appropriateness upon receipt, review and approval of two signed and sealed sets of the Department of Buildings drawings for the approved work. Subsequently, on August 7, 2013, the Landmarks Preservation Commission received final drawings labeled C-01.01 and C-03.01, prepared by William R. Vogt P.E., The Commission reviewed the drawings and found that the proposal approved by the Commission has been maintained. Based on this and the above findings, the drawings have been marked approved with a perforated seal and Certificate of Appropriateness 14-7143 is being issued. This permit is issued on the basis of the building and site conditions described in the application and disclosed during the review process. By accepting this permit, the applicant agrees to notify the Commission if the actual building or site conditions vary or if original or historic building fabric is discovered. The Commission reserves the right to amend or revoke this permit, upon written notice to the applicant, in the event that the actual building or site conditions are materially different from those described in the application or disclosed during the review process. All approved drawings are marked approved by the Commission with a perforated seal indicating the date of approval. The work is limited to what is contained in the perforated documents. Other work or amendments to this filing must be reviewed and approved separately. The applicant is hereby put on notice that performing or maintaining any work not explicitly authorized by this permit may make the applicant liable for criminal and/or civil penalties, including imprisonment and fines.
