Mel Blanc is known for voicing many of the Looney Tunes characters including Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Sylvester the Cat, Tweety Bird, Foghorn Leghorn, Tasmanian Devil, Elmur Fudd, Yosemite Sam, Pepe Le Pew, Speedy Gonzales and Wile E. Coyote. The Tasmanian Devil, which Taz is based on, is a carnivorous marsupial native to Tasmania that grows to be the size of a small dog. According to his 1990 published “biography, Bugs Bunny was born on July 27, 1940 in Brooklyn, New York. Mel Blanc would chew on carrots while recording dialogue for Bugs Bunny and his carrot munching scenes. Wile E. Coyote’s character design was based off Chuck Jones’ interpretation of Mark Twain’s description of coyotes in his book “Roughin’ It.” Sylvester the Cat’s name is a play on “felis silvestris,” the scientific name for the wild cat species. Porky Pig is one of the only characters to have said a curse word. Speedy Gonzales hails from Mexico and is known as the “Fastest Mouse in all Mexico.” Bugs Bunny and Mickey Mouse have only appeared together once, in the film “Who Framed Roger Rabbit” under the condition that they both have equal amount of lines and screen time. Sylvester the Cat has had more “deaths” than any other character. Bugs Bunny shares traits of both rabbits and hares. His long ears are similar to hares, but he lives in a burrow like rabbits do.
