Peter Pan Jr

Ojai Youth Entertainers Studio | Dated: 8/30/18 AUDITION GUIDE - PETER PAN JR Peter Pan Jr features a robust cast of beloved ensemble characters; Pirates, Lost Boys, and Neverland Natives are the mainstay of this timeless production. Peter Pan, Jr is adapted for the youth stage and provides a unique experience for each performer to explore and create memorable characters in an ensemble, developing invaluable skills to grow as an actor. ABOUT Peter Pan Jr -- Adapted from the 1954 Broadway production (not the Disney version), is based on J.M. Barrie's classic tale and features a memorable score by Morris "Moose" Charlap and Jule Styne with lyrics by Carolyn Leigh and Betty Comden and Adolph Green. SYNOPSIS Peter and his mischievous fairy sidekick, Tinkerbell, visit the nursery of the Darling children late one night and, with a sprinkle of pixie dust, begin a magical journey across the stars that none of them will ever forget. In the adventure of a lifetime, the travelers come face to face with a ticking crocodile, a fierce native tribe, a band of villainous pirates and, of course, the treacherous Captain Hook. DIRECTOR'S NOTES Indians -- Parts of this adaptation have been respectfully updated from the original 1954 production. The “Indians” in Neverland are referred to as the Neverland Natives. These characters are called “Brave Girls” in the script. Due to the authors’ original allusion to the Northeastern Native Americans, some of the Brave Girls’ musical numbers may be sung in the language of the Wyandotte tribe. The story will be told as scripted, with minor adjustments to support the roles of Tiger Lily and the Brave Girls as Neverland Natives. Tinker Bell -- The Neverland fairy appears in the show as a light on the stage. Tinker Bell's’ “voice” is expressed in the story by a Celeste. The directors may choose to assign this role to an actor as a “non-speaking” part for specified scenes in the show. AUDITION INSTRUCTIONS WHAT TO BRING - Bring your calendar. Wendy is very bright, ever-practical and ready for an adventure! warm presence and great singing voice. John - John is the middle Darling child and has an amicable and open presence. A little more proper than his younger brother. Strong acting and singing role who is the perfect complement to his siblings. Michael - Michael is the youngest Darling boy and seems to have unlimited energy. Strong acting role for someone who can easily portray the youngest and most stubborn of the Darling children. Nana - Nana is a dog, A role for a performer who is unafraid to jump in and play this iconic part of the story. This performer should have a knack for physicality and be comfortable making bold acting choices Mrs. Darling - Mrs. Darling is the mother of Wendy, John and Michael, and she is the perfect picture of a mother. A strong acting and singing role for someone who reads onstage as an older character Mr. Darling - Mr. Darling is the father of Wendy, John and Michael, and he is a man with one concern: keeping his house in order. Liza - Liza is the Darling’s housekeeper who always seems to be in a bit of a frenzy as she tries to keep everyone pleased. A role for a performer who can command the stage and is a good actor, singer and mover. Brave Girls - Neverland Natives. A strong singing and acting role, but above all, with great comedic timing. Though Captain Hook is the villain of the show, he’s also a bit of a comical character who just can’t seem to get what he wants. He has to be as treacherous to the Lost Boys as he is a complete wimp around the Crocodile. Smee - Smee is Captain Hook’s sidekick who wants nothing more than to see Captain Hook succeed in his evil plotting.Strong acting role and should complement Captain Hook. Crocodile - Like Nana, the Crocodile is a silent role for a young performer who can take a leap and become the wickedest beast that ever was!
