0 N E C I T Y . 0 N E JACKSONVILLE WHEREAS: On February 9, 1947, what would eventually be the 125th Fighter Wing, was federally recognized and stationed at Jacksonville's Imeson Field; and WHEREAS: The unit transitioned through multiple aircraft before deploying with the P-84 to support the Korean War effort. After the war, the unit relocated to Jacksonville International Airport, and transitioned to the F-86D; and WHEREAS: On January 1, 1957, Florida's Air Force began executing 24/7 air sovereignty alert operations which continues today. In 1995, after flying the F-102, F-106, and F-16, the 125th made its conversion to the F-15 Eagle, which still flies; and WHEREAS: Today, the 125th Fighter Wing, Home of the Thunder, executes an extremely diverse mission set with 1,671 Airmen assigned to 25 units, operating across seven separate geographic locations; and WHEREAS: In addition to F-15 Air Superiority mission, the citizen-airmen provide experienced CV-22 operations and maintenance support to critical Air Force Special Operations Command missions from Hurlburt Field, operate counter-space systems at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, provide joint force-communications from MacDill Air Force Base, and deliver rapid engineer, heavy construction and repair capability, as well as unmatched combat weather forecasting, from Camp Blanding Joint Training Center; and WHEREAS: Airmen from the ranks ofthese units are currently deployed in support of national defense military operations throughout the globe, as well as within the state; and WHEREAS: Our community has championed the 125th Fighter Wing's cause to protect and defend this great state and nation. We are proud to be home to the heroic, world renowned, 125th Fighter Wing that continues to execute extremely diverse mission sets across the state and around the world. NOW, THEREFORE, I, LENNY CURRY, by virtue of the authority vested in me as mayor of Jacksonville, Florida, do hereby recognize January 25, 2021 as 125TH FIGHTER WING DAY in Jacksonville and encourage all citizens to honor our heroic Citizen-Airmen and express our deep gratitude for their service and determination.
