Annual Credit Plan 2019-2020 Coimbatore District Convenor CANARA BANK Lead Bank Office, Coimbatore MESSAGE I am extremely happy to note that Canara bank, the Lead Bank, has brought out the booklet on the Annual Credit Plan (ACP) for the district of Coimbatore for the year 2019-20 with a Financial Outlay of Rs.19425 crores. During the year 2018-19, banks have shown an excellent performance. As against the Target of Rs. 17878 crores, banks have disbursed an amount of Rs.18673 crores, registering an achievement of 104%. It has been observed that the banks, in support with the line departments of the State Government, were able to reach the set targets under various programs namely NULM,NEEDS, PMEGP, UYEGP, NRLM, TAHDCO during the last year. I am sure that the banks would extend similar type of cooperation and support to repeat their best performance during current year also. This booklet contains important information regarding the banking scenario in the district, various loan schemes available for the needy people, the details of all bank branches etc., The booklet also contains all the statistical information of the District. The ACP 2019-20 of Coimbatore was drafted in correlation with the Potential Linked Credit Plan (PLP) prepared by NABARD. The ACP has given important focus on Credit to Hitech Agriculture, Rural Godowns, Cold Storages, Agri Marketing Infrastructure, Agro and Food processing, SHGs, KCC, MSME and OPS. The ACP contains various development programmes being implemented in the district. I hope that our bankers will strive hard to achieve the ACP and they may make efforts to surpass the Targets. I place on record my appreciation to Lead Bank, RBI, NABARD, and all others who were directly or indirectly involved in the preparation of ACP 2019-20 book. M.Abdul Ajees General Manager Canara Bank, Circle Office, Chennai Coimbatore District is a Progressive District and assumes greater importance in the Economic Development of Tamilnadu. All the three sectors viz., Agriculture, Industry and Services have a strong presence and actively contribute to the development of the District. The CD ratio of the District is 109 % which is well above the prescribed level by RBI. In view of the presence of good Educational Institutions and availability of technical manpower, it is also emerging as a major destination for manufacturing and IT industries. Further with advanced medical facilities, the District Headquarters is emerging as one of the best Medical Hubs in the country. Coimbatore is a well-banked District with good network of all categories of Banks viz, Public Sector, Private Sector, New generation, Foreign, Cooperative banks, Payment banks and Small Finance Banks. Hence the preparation of the plan is a challenging exercise. Based on the ‘Potential Linked Credit Plan’ (PLP) prepared by NABARD and the credit plans prepared by individual Branch Managers of the Banks, a detailed credit plan for 2019-20 has been prepared for the District. The total outlay of the credit plan for 2019-20 is Rs.19425 crores, which is 9% more than the previous year’s ACP. The Agricultural sector gets an allocation of Rs.7440 crores, the MSME sector is allocated Rs.8673 crores and the other priority sector is allocated Rs.3312 crores. I would like to thank RBI, NABARD, the District Administration, various Government Departments and the Bankers for the excellent cooperation in the preparation of the plan and with the same spirit we must achieve the plan for 2019-20. The book will serve as a ready reference on various developmental schemes operating in the District along with the address and phone numbers of line departments, Bank branches and NGOs operating in the District. It is known as the Textile Capital of South India and the Manchester of the South. Coimbatore existed even prior to the 2nd or 3rd century AD. When Kongunadu fell to the British along with the rest of the state, its name was changed to Coimbatore. Climate : In the rain shadow region of the Western ghats, Coimbatore enjoys a very pleasant climate all the year round. The existence of Palghat gap across the Western Ghats on the East has considerably influenced the climate and cultivation in the District. During the South West monsoon, a considerable quantity of rain is carried along this gap into Pollachi Taluk. The rich black soil of the region has contributed to Coimbatore's flourishing agriculture industry and, it is in fact the successful cultivation of cotton that served as a foundation for the establishment of its famous textile industry. The Economy: The economy of this part of Kongu Nadu is multifaceted with strong binding between agriculture and industries. The prime industrial and commercial town of Coimbatore has a lot of business potential. There are more number of small, medium, large sale industries and textile mills in the District. Coimbatore is famous for the manufacture of motor pump sets,wet grinders other varied engineering goods and these products are being exported to many countries. The development of Hydro electricity from the Pykara Falls in the 1930 led to a cotton boom in Coimbatore.
