The basic with Persimmon Dye kakishibu color is a brownish burnt pumpkin, and this color may be altered with Chris Conrad the addition of modifiers. Participants will dye skeins of various fibers, a table mat, silk scarves, cotton bandanas and silk noil cloth. In addition students will August 29&30, dye and cover a basket with katazome printed Japanese washi paper . Saturday & Sunday 10AM 4PM $160 + $60. Mat. Fee Introduction to Learn about the magic of indig o dyeing with the most ancient dye. Students will learn how to make an indigo vat at home, how to maintain and replenish it, and Indigo Dye how to dye beautiful shades of blue. Eugene Textile Center keeps an ongoing Marilyn Robert vat, and twice a month there are indigo dye days for people who want to use it. October 2, Friday, 10AM 4PM $60 + $10 Mat. Fee Indigo Drop In On two Friday afternoons per month, people gather in the dye lab to dye clean cloth and yarns in the in digo pot. Most students who use this resource are Fridays, familiar with the process. If a student is unfamiliar with indigo dyeing, (s)he will August 7, 21, talk with ETC staff who will teach them. There is a one lb. limit on the amount of Sept 4, 18, material which may be dyed. People may dye on other days as well but call ahead October 9 & 23 to schedule. November 6 & 20 December 4 & 18 $15 per one session Make Your Own This is a course for the katazome practitioners who would like to add to their Harite/ Mineral equipment by ma king the harite, the end clamps which hold the stretched, pasted cloth for dyeing. We will provide materials for one pair of harite, 24” Pigments wide. Marilyn Robert Mineral pigments are used to color cloth. Traditional Japanese cloth was often October 6, Tuesday, pigment dyed. In this workshop we d other obwill explore sources for mineral 10AM 4PM pigment dyes, and techniques for making and using them $60 + $25 Mat Fee Colorhue Dye- By blen ding Colorhue dyes red, ye llow and blue, participants will generate a full Triaxial Scale spectrum color palette of 21 hues on silk cloth and silk thread. Barbara Setsu Pickett Next Barbara will teach techniques using Colorhue dyes including fold & clamp, thermofax, lumiere metallic, and other direct applications. October 3, Saturday, 10AM 4PM $75 + $15 Mat. Fee Natural Dyes In this day long class, we explore the unique qualities and colors of plant dyes. We will work with cotton, silk, and wool cloth and yarn that have been prepared Marilyn Robert with mordants. In class we will do dyeing, and use modifiers on the samples. December 12, Saturday We will produce a “sample” notebook. 10AM 4PM $60 + $15 Mat. Fee Dye Yarn Blocks for Are you a sock knitter? Take this opportunity to dye the yarn for your next pair. Each student will have yarn blocks to dye and different colorways to explore. Socks Janis Thompson November 7, Saturday, 15PM $40 + $8 Mat. Fee Transferology This is a unique workshop focusing on different methods for transferring images onto cloth. In two days Wendy Huhn will teach multiple techniques: Wendy Huhn Xylene transfer October 10 & 11, Citra Solv transfer Saturday and Sunday Paperless Paper 9AM 4:30PM Gel transfer Paper plate lithoography $150 + $10 Mat. Fee Fabric through the photo copier Heat Press, Collage Learn to use the heat press to transfer images onto cloth. In this one day class, participants will create images with dyed paper, and will learn to layer pattern on Cloth on pattern. Transfer images o f grasses, leaves, lace and other items. Generate Marilyn Robert multiple images with this technique. November 3, Tuesday, 10AM 4PM $60 + $10 Mat. Fee Print a Reusable Bag Be proud of that bag you carry to the grocery store or the farmers’ market. In this day long class, participants will print pattern on the bag using the heat Marilyn Robert press, disperse dyes, and imagination. Participants will receive instructions to November 7, Saturday complete the one of akind bag. 10AM 4PM $50 + $5 Mat Fee Introduction to This is a beginning level class that answers the question “What is Surface Design?” It is a hands on survey of techniques of dyeing and printing on cloth, Surface Design with attention to design, color, and compositio n using high and low tech tools. Fee Felting Felt a NUNO Scarf Want the luxury of a silk scarf felted wi th merino wool wrapped around your neck? That’s a NUNO scarf. Add color, texture, and embellishments for a Marilyn Robert unique, one of akind creation. October 31, Saturday, 15PM $40 + $10 Mat. Fee Felt a Critter This class is really designed as a two for (ch ildren welcome with adult supervision), a joint project to create a felt creature, anything from a mouse to Marilyn Robert a bunny to a scary monster, two legged or four legged. Have fun! December 5, Saturday 10AM 1PM $25 Easy Felted Scarves Just in time for the holidays! Make a SOFTLY felted scarf or two in class, using a combination of Merino, silk, colorful threads and glitz. We will sandwich our Janis Thompson fibers between two pieces of fabric, pin them together and put in the WASHING December 19, Saturday MACHINE! 15PM $40 + $8 Mat. F ee Carding Drum Carding Using color wheels and color theory, we will work our way with the drum carder Around the Color around the color wheel. Fee Needlework In this workshop, we will make a sewing kit based on an embroidery kit made Chinese Sewing Kit for generations by Miao tribal cul tures in Guizhou Province, China. Fee Rug Hooking – with Learn how to make small trea sures using a hook and yarn in this fun ½ day WOOL Yarn class. We will make a Lapel Pin in class to put on your fave coat or give as a gift. Lots of ideas for other projects presented in class. Janis Thompson November 21, Saturday, 15PM $40 + $8 Mat. Fee Weaving This is a 4 week course introducing the art of handweaving. Students will use Beginning Weaving Eugene Textile Center looms. Students will learn about weaving patterns, Suzie Liles preparing the loom, weaving and finishing techniques for the woven cloth. Aug 12, 19, 26, Sept 2 Oct 28, Nov 4, 11, 18 4 week sessions Wednesdays, 12 5PM $140 per session Ikat Weaving Marilyn has been teaching ikat weaving for many years and it may be her favorite weaving technique. In this class st udents will design ikat patterns, Marilyn Robert prepare warp and weft by binding the pattern, and then dye the threads. Looms September 3,10,17,24 will be dressed and the cloth will be woven with patterns to dye for. Thursdays, 12 5PM $140 + $10 Mat. Fee In this class you will learn to warp a loom from back to front. You will learn Warping Back to Front many tips to make this process go smoothly. I have many tips to share whether Suzie Liles you are a seasoned weaver on just a beginner. October 21, Wednesday 10AM 1PM, $30 2 Day Learn to Weave This is a fast paced workshop designed to provide participants with basic weaving skills. ETC looms will be used. Suzie Liles Oct 31 & Nov 1 Nov 21 & 22 Saturday & Sunday, 10AM 4PM $120 per session Inkle Loom Weaving 2 Day In the class you will learn how to warp and weave an inkle loom. You will make two projects learning the funda mentals of placing colors to make Suzie Liles pattern you will also learn to make pattern with pickup. You may use your September 12&13, Saturday loom or one of ETC's looms & Sunday 10AM 4PM $120 + $8 Mat. Fee Rigid Heddle Weaving In this class you will learn to warp a ridged heddle loom with a scarf and then weave it. This class will give the very basics of weaving. Fee Weaving Refresher Can’t remember how to make a warp, read a draft, dress your loom? After four hours you will be on your way to resume your handweaving. Suzie Liles November 2, Monday, 10AM 1PM $40 No looms are required for this workshop, which emphasizes design in Weaving Draft & Design handwoven textiles, as well as reading and creating drafted patterns.
