STEVIE NICKS Stephanie Lynn Nicks was born in Phoenix, Arizona raised in El Paso attending Loretto Academy and Bassett Junior High. When she was 4 years old she began practicing song and dance routines at home and on week-ends performed with her grandfather, a country singer, at various events. On her 16th birthday her parents bought her a Goya classical guitar in which she composed her first song. In 1965 her parents moved to Los Angeles where she attended Arcadia High School and joins her first band. When her dad was transferred to San Francisco she attended Menlo-Atherton High School where she was runner-up to the homecoming queen. She was at a church gathering when Lindsey Buckingham, Rock guitarist/ singer/songwriter happened to walk into the room where he sat down and started singing “California Dreaming”. Knowing all of the words to the song she decided to join him singing harmony. When her family moved to Chicago, in 1967, she stayed in the Bay area attending San Jose State College. While in college she joined up with Lindsey Buckingham in a psychedelic band. After becoming romantically involved with Buckingham in 1971 they became a duo. In 1972 she composed “After The Glitter Fades” that would be a track on her first solo album. In 1975 Lindsey and Stevie joined the Pop/rock group Fleetwood Mac. Their album “Fleetwood Mac” went #1 Platinum 5 times and in 1977 “Rumors” the follow-up album went #1 for 31 weeks with 40 million sales to date and the Grammy Award Album of the Year. During these years there were a lot of conflicts going on in the band with divorces and break ups in which Stevie would use as an inspiration to write songs. She wrote “Dreams” Fleetwood Mac’s only #1 and RIAA Certified single. Beginning in the early eighties she had a successful solo career. Stevie Nicks has written a total of 12 BMI Award Winning Songs. Her nick-name “Stevie” came from her difficulty, as a child, in pronouncing “Stephanie” pronouncing it “Tee Dee” which evolved into “Stevie. .
