Assistant Coaches COAL BOWL HISTORY: This weekend marks the fourth-annual Coal Bowl in the long-standing Mike Conway (Olivet Nazarene ‘83) - 11th season rivalry between Cal U and IUP. In the first-ever Coal Bowl, the Vulcans posted a 41-28 road Associate Head Coach/Defensive Coord. victory in 2009 behind four touchdown passes by quarterback Josh Portis. In 2010, Cal U rallied D’Monn Baker (Bowling Green ‘03) - 6th season from a 15-0 fourth-quarter deficit to earn an 18-15 victory in overtime. Portis connected with Tight Ends wide receiver Chedrick Cherry for a touchdown and two-point conversion before kicker Marc Domonkos made the game-winning field goal in overtime. Last season, quarterback Peter Dave Cole (California ‘04) - 9th season Lalich passed for three touchdowns in snowy conditions to help the Vulcans post a 28-10 win. Secondary/Recruiting Coordinator Mike Evans (Saginaw Valley ‘00) - 10th season READING THE POLLS: With its second 3-0 start in the last three years, Cal U remained at No. 6 in both the AFCA and D2Football.com Top 25 polls. The Vulcans have been ranked in the top 10 Offensive Line of the AFCA poll for three-straight weeks. After its first 3-0 start since 2009, IUP also moved up in Mike R. Jacobs (Ohio State ‘01) - 5th season both polls and is now ranked No. 14 by the AFCA and No. 21 by D2Football.com. Defensive Line Thomas Rebholz, Jr. (IUP ‘03) - 3rd season WEST PRESEASON FAVORITES: Cal U and IUP were selected as co-preseason favorites in the PSAC West this summer. Last year under new head coach Curt Cignetti, the Crimson Hawks Safeties posted their highest win total since 2008 and recorded five divisional wins for the first time Chad Salisbury (Buffalo ‘99) - 4th season since 2007. Meanwhile, the Vulcans advanced to the NCAA Playoffs for the fifth-straight year Quarterbacks while also being one of two PSAC teams with at least 10 wins in 2011. David Storino (California ‘09) - 1st season DIAMOND NOTES: This weekend’s contest will feature a pair of former PSAC baseball players in Running Backs Cal U senior wide receiver Casey Teagarden and IUP senior quarterback Pat Smith. Teagarden Larry Wilson (Slippery Rock ‘99) - 8th season was the starting shortstop for the Vulcans from 2010-11 and Smith was a relief pitcher with the Crimson Hawks in 2009-10.
