TROGIR CROATIA CREW LOGBOOK 13th to 20thMay 2017 Welcome Welcome to the Engineering Sailing Cup 2017 and welcome to Croatia! It was in 2001 that we visited Croatia first time. Since this we sailed Croatian waters in 2004, 2005, 2010, 2011 and 2014 and it is great to be back, We are pleased to welcome back all of last year’s participants . We are all looking forward to the reunion on Saturday evening when the ESC week kicks off with the Welcome Party. During the week we will visit on Vis island the harbours Komiza and Vis town, on the stunning Pakleni archipelago we will anchor in Uval Vinogradisce (which is the perfect venue for dinghy race), followed by Hvar town, Drvenik Veli and then back to Trogir for the farewell and prize-giving party. We have included extracts from Navionics charts in this booklet, but please do not use these or any other data presented here for navigation. There are waypoints for every overnight stopover including possible alternatives and we suggest you take the time to enter all these into your GPS before we leave Trogir. Tedious, we know, but we have to remind you that a boat is entirely responsible for its own safety and nothing in this document or anywhere else, reduces this responsibility. It is for the boat to decide whether it is fit to sail in the conditions in which it will find itself. By going to sea, the boat confirms that it is fit for these conditions and that its crew is competent to sail in them. We recommend each skipper to give his crew a safety briefing covering as a minimum gas safety, man over board (MOB) procedures, boom awareness, winch operation and lifejackets. Each skipper should make himself aware of any relevant medical conditions any of his crew have, especially diabetes, epilepsy or heart and blood circuit conditions. It will not be easy to get prescription medicines during the week so make sure your crew has what is needed before leaving the marina of Trogir. 2 Commodores Welcome Hendrik Baur, Commodore ESC 2016 Fabian Hemm, Yaser Hamad, Dirk Demtröder, Gerhard Brockschmidt, Ranja Saleh, Nienke van Oortmerssen, Wolfgang Möller Left to right Dear participants, welcome to the ESC 2017. This year, the Engineering Sailing Cup will take us to the beautiful Trogir in Croatia. We have been in Dalmatia a couple of times, but this splendid coast line with it’s ancient historically valuable cities and villages along with a fantastic landscape and excellent sailing conditions including the appreciated marinas attracts us back to Croatia almost every other year! Our bigger partner-event ECC 2017 will also take place in Trogir the week ahead of our regatta week, which facilitates the opportunity to sail both events as Arno Hemm and myself with parts of our crew will do! Friday evening and Saturday morning may give all of you the chance to meet one or the other of your old ECC friends by coincidence or organized. Another important reason to select Trogir was a very good offer by Navigare via Cosmos Yachting for 10 almost identical and very new Yachts Bavaria 46 C. So I hope the regatta will be enthralling like last year, when 6 out of 10 boats could theoretically win the regatta at the last race. My crew and I are looking forward to an enjoyable and relaxing week being on vacation after all! Dirk Demtröder. Details of the marina are given below. Trogir is literally a town-museum. Lovers of cultural and historical monuments, art, original architecture and nice alleys are given the opportunity in Trogir to learn about the manifold and complex heritage - from the Romanesque yard to the modern interiors. The old core is situated on a small island between the island of Ciovo and the mainland connected to the mainland by a small stone bridge, and to the island of Ciovo by a drawbridge. The unique historical core, Radovan's portal, the art collections which have been luring visitors and travellers for centuries offer a tourist a unique experience. Must-see attractions in Trogir include Kamerlengo fortress, Town museum, St. Lawrence cathedral, Loggia with town clock, Old and new Čipiko palace and St. Nicholas church with Kairos collection Commodore and his team have decided to celebrate the welcome as well as the winner award party at the locations inside the marina in order to ensure short ways and comfortable accommodations. Details are given on separate slides below. 13 General Instructions General ESC2017 will take place out of Trogir in Croatia from 13th to 20th May 2017. Dirk Demtröder and his crew will be our Commodore and his boat, “ BEATRIX ” will be the “LAM DUG” for race starts (see below). The event will be sailed under ISAF’s “Racing Rules of Sailing for 2013 - 2016” (available from internet and as an app for Apple and Android mobiles). The event will consist of 6 daily races (legs) with the worst result discarded. The overall ranking will be in order of lowest points score. Ties will be decided based on each yacht’s best performances. There will be a prize for the overall winners. Courses and Pre-race Briefings Briefings will be held every morning - see Commodore’s crew for venue. All skippers and crews are welcome. The day’s course(s) will be given at the briefing, or later by VHF on the water. The provisional routes and stopover locations are given on the following pages. In every case, the first mark to be rounded after the start will be upwind and will require at least one tack. One of the waypoints shown on each route chart in the following pages is likely to be used as the windward mark, after which the route will follow the waypoints in numerical order. If the race is to be shortened it will be at a distinctive location near one of the waypoints. Unless otherwise notified skippers meeting will be at 08.30 at a convenient cafe or if not available on the Commodores boat. Start Procedure Commodore’s boat will act as the “Rabbit” which starts the race by approaching below the windward mark on Port tack. The other entrants cross behind him on Starboard tack. The “rabbit” may trail a fender which you must start behind without touching. The start of the rabbit’s run will be pre- announced by VHF and if you don’t cross on the initial run, you may cross behind the rabbit at any time before the rabbit rounds the windward mark, after which you will be deemed to have failed to start. The race will be considered to have started when the first boat crosses the rabbit’s wake.
