Date/Time Event Details Every Saturday Museum of Work & Culture Woonsocket Walking Tours Starting June 3 Explore historic Woonsocket along the banks of the Blackstone River and Main Street. through Tour guides will explain how the river influenced the birth of the Industrial Revolution and how the mills impacted the environment. Tours are $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and August 5 students and include complementary admission to the museum. Children under 10 are 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. free with a paid adult admission. Space is limited. Call the Museum at (401) 769-9675 to make a reservation. Your tour guide will stamp your Passport. Saturday, July 22 Families In Nature Hike, Pulaski State Park, Glocester 11 a.m. Join this family friendly hike to explore the landscape and learn about the beavers that live in and around Peck Pond. Participants are encouraged to pack a picnic lunch and bring bathing suits. Meet in the parking area near the beach. Sunday July 30 Governor’s Bay Day Park free and enjoy the sand and surf at any one of Rhode Island’s seven beautiful state beaches – Scarborough, Wheeler or Salty Brine in Narragansett; Charlestown Breachway, East, or East Matunuck in Charlestown; or, Misquamicut in Westerly. Some beaches will have special activities. Check the RI Great Outdoors Pursuit website for more info. Friday, August 4 Bioluminescence Night, Beavertail State Park, Jamestown 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Join RI State Parks staff for a relaxing evening at one of Rhode Island’s most scenic state parks. The event will feature Beavertail Lighthouse Tower Tours (5-7 p.m.), an outdoor movie, stargazing and illumination jelly fish and sea creatures. See a member of the RI State Parks staff to collect your stamp. Saturday, Come Birding With Me, Great Swamp Management Area, West August 5 Kingston 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Join DEM’s Fish and Wildlife staff to explore the birds of Rhode Island and learn about habitat management. Space is limited and pre-registration will be required. A pre-registration link will be sent to members and slots will be filled on a first come, first served basis. Your guide will give you your sticker at the end of the hike. Meet at Great Swamp Management Area Headquarters, 277 Great Neck Road, Wakefield. Saturday, Rx Hike, Browning Woods Trail August 5 Join the South Kingstown Land Trust for an all ages hike in their largest land holding 10 a.m. through pine and oak forest and past amazing stone walls. The hike is about 3 miles that can be shorten to about 1 mile if desired. Kids and leashed dogs welcome. Your guide will give you your sticker at the end of the hike. Friday, August 11 Doug Rayner Wildlife Refuge at Nockum Hill, Barrington 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Join the Barrington Land Conservation Trust and the RI Land Trust Council to view the largest regional nesting ground for the diamondback terrapin and enjoy the gentle coastal walking trails along Hundred Acre Cove. This is a leisurely, 2-3 mile easy hike for all ages. Due to the sensitivity of the nesting terrapin population, dogs are not permitted at the Refuge. Sunset will be 7:50 on Aug 11 and twilight will last until 8:21pm. Flashlights are optional. Insect repellant is recommended for prevention of Lyme Disease. Saturday, Great Outdoors Pursuit Grand Finale, Rocky Point State Park, Warwick August 12 Bring your passport to the grand finale and earn your rewards. You could also win some great prizes. Free overnight camping option for Great Outdoors Pursuit families. More details coming soon! Places to visit on your own to earn passport stickers (only one sticker per location is eligible): • Save the Bay Shoreline Cleanups: Join Save the Bay and help cleanup Rhode Island’s shoreline this summer! Volunteer between May 20 and August 12 and see the on-site coordinator to collect your sticker at the end of the cleanup. Visit Save the Bay’s website for dates, locations, and registration. • Captain Wilbur Kelly House Museum: Lincoln, RI – See the Park Ranger for your sticker • Beavertail State Park Aquarium: Beavertail State Park, Jamestown – see the Park Naturalist for your sticker • Coggeshall Farm: Colt State Park, Bristol. See the farm staff for your sticker. (Standard admission fees apply). • Fort Adams Tour: Fort Adams State Park, Newport – Visit the Fort Adams Trust gift shop to receive your sticker. (Standard admission fees apply). • Goddard State Park Golf Course: Warwick, RI – Take the family to play 9 holes of golf on the only state- operated golf facility in the state. (Regulated golfing fees apply). Present your passport with payment of your greens fees to receive your sticker. • Audubon Environmental Education Center: Bristol, RI – Visit Audubon for nature exploration, guided walks and programs for the entire family. Present your passport at the admissions counter to receive your stamp. • REI Cranston Outdoor Clinics & Events Cranston, RI – Whether you're an outdoor novice or a seasoned adventurer – REI’s got the outdoor class, outing, or event that's right for you.
