Who Is John Titor? Those interested in his story would like to know the answer to that question, that's just human nature. But there are some considerations that ought to be kept in mind: 1) It doesn't really matter. What does matter is whether he was a fraud or not. Was he speaking the truth or was he a liar just spinning a yarn? Everything hinges on that. 2) We're probably never going to know WHO he really was, either in the sense of unmasking a fraud or learning any more about him than he chose to reveal. So why bother? Nonetheless JT's identity seems to be at the crux of the issue. If we could figure out who he is, track him down through some sleuthing of IP addresses and dialup accounts, maybe it would be possible to figure out who he really is and expose him (although if he was genuine, the most that could be accomplished would be to terrify his parents and motivate them to go into hiding). But it appears to me that he took some precautions to prevent being discovered, seemingly to protect his parents and young version of himself that he left behind when he went back to his time. At least nobody's been able to track him down so far. That may simply be because he has not appeared on the radar screens of the CIA or FBI or NSA or other secret police agency yet. If he is proven to have been correct about civil war starting soon however, the spooks may take some interest. Damn, if that happens I may wind up having to talk to them just because I made this website. They might even get the crazy idea that I'm JT, strap me to a gurney and administer truth serum, or use the classic electrodes-to-the-genitals trick to make me tell them anything they want to hear. Those potentially unpleasant thoughts didn't even occur to me until I was asked if I might be JT. What a hoot! Except if the spooks get caught up in that idea things could get ugly. This has gotten me thinking, what might I tell the Feds or anyone else to convince them I'm not JT anyway? How could ANYBODY prove they aren't JT? Maybe if they were incarcerated during the time of JT's postings, or in a coma, or already being closely monitored by the FBI at the time, something like that might be sufficient proof. But for most people they would not have any way to prove a negative, much like Saddam Hussein couldn't PROVE to George Bush Junior that he had no weapons of mass destruction. In a broader context any discussion about whether I am or am not John Titor (I am emphatically not, in case I haven't made myself clear yet) is meaningless anyway, because if his prediction about civil war begins to come true in the next year or two we will know he wasn't a fraud, and if his prediction doesn't come true within the next few years we will know he was. And if he was, who will care? The only reason we might have for proving him a fraud beforehand is to relieve our anxiety without having to wait through 2004 or 2005 for the proof to emerge (or not emerge, as the case may be). In the meantime the best use we might be able to make of our time remaining before proof one way or the other is obtained, is to become sensitive to the early warning signs JT warned us about so that we may be able to recognize them at an early stage and escape the worst of the consequences. I'm talking about civil war first, nuclear war much later. As of this writing in July 2003 we're not at a point yet where civil war even looks probable, but current events do seem to be moving toward that direction, with American concentration camps already in operation and our civil liberties being compromised by Bush and Ashcroft. We ought to be taking these signs as an early warning to both prepare personally for what might very well turn out to be civil war, as well as to take political action to avert that disaster, since JT told us we had it in our power to change our world line. These things are far more important than quibbling endlessly over whether or not somebody like myself who merely has an interest in the subject is or isn't John Titor. Addendum 12/28/03: As interest in the saga grows, so do clownish imposters spring up claiming to be John Titor. They can be easily tested if desired. Test Imposters with the Secret Song Question There are many false John Titors posting messages on the Web these days, but it's easier than you might think to expose them. Just ask them to answer this question: What is the name of the song that the real John told Pamela several times to remember? If they can't or won't answer, they are clearly liars. If they will give you an answer, tell us here what it is, and we'll let you know if it's correct. Please also include a URL if available, or other source information about where the person claiming to be John Titor has been posting. John Titor: From Wikipedia http://wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Titor John Titor's military insignia John Titor is the name used on several bulletin boards during 2000 and 2001 by a poster claiming to be a time traveler from the year 2036. In these posts he made numerous predictions (a number of them vague, some quite specific[1]) about events in the near future, starting with events in 2004. He described a drastically changed future in which the United States had broken into five smaller regions, the environment and infrastructure had been devastated by a nuclear attack, and most other world powers had been destroyed. To date, the story has been retold on numerous web sites, in a book, and in a play. He has also been discussed occasionally on the radio show Coast to Coast AM.[2] In this respect, the Titor story may be unique in terms of broad appeal from an originally limited medium, an Internet discussion board. Titor's posts The first post appeared on the Time Travel Institute forums on November 2, 2000, under the name TimeTravel_0. At the time the posts had nothing to do with future events and the name "John Titor" was not being used. Instead, the posts discussed time travel in general, the first one being the "six parts" description of what a time machine would need to have to work (see below) and responses to questions about how such a machine would work. Early messages tended to be short. Soon after, TimeTravel_0 claimed to be a time traveler from the future and began posting varying descriptions of his time. Gradually he began answering questions posted in the forum and started to reveal a more complex picture of the future. Although most of his posts concerned the condition of the world in the future, Titor also responded to questions both in the forums and in IRC,[3] and sometimes posted images[citation needed] purporting to be of the time travel device or its manual. He also sometimes talked about more current events; for instance, in an early post he stated that "The breakthrough that will allow for [time travel] technology will occur within a year or so [2001] when CERN brings their larger facility online".[4] The name "John Titor" was not introduced until January 2001, when TimeTravel_0 began posting at the Art Bell BBS Forums (which required a name or pseudonym for every account). The Titor posts ended in late March 2001. Eventually, a number of the threads became corrupted; but Titor's posts had been saved on subscribers' hard drives and were copied to Anomalies.net, along with new discussions of the science behind Titor's time travelling as well as his predictions.[5] Around 2003, various websites reproduced Titor's posts, re-arranging them into narratives. Not all refer to the original dates posted.[6] Outline In his online postings, Titor claimed to be an American soldier from the year 2036, based in Tampa in Hillsborough County, Florida, who was assigned to a governmental time-travel project. Purportedly, Titor had been sent back to 1975 to retrieve an IBM 5100 computer which he said was needed to "debug" various legacy computer programs in 2036; a reference to the UNIX 2038 timeout error. The 5100 runs the APL and BASIC programming languages. Titor had been selected for this mission specifically, given that his paternal grandfather was directly involved with the assembly and programming of the 5100. Titor claimed to be on a stopover in the year 2000 for "personal reasons"; i.e., to collect pictures lost in the (future) civil war and to visit his family, of whom he spoke often. Titor also said he had been, for a few months, trying to alert anyone that would listen about the threat of Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease spread through beef products and about the possibility of civil war within the United States. When questioned about them by an online subscriber, Titor also expressed an interest in unexplained mysteries such as UFOs (which in his time were still as yet unexplained). Titor suggested that UFOs and alien visitors may well be time travelers from much further into the future than his own time, who possessed superior time machines to his own.
