2015 KANSAS CITY ROYALS Spring Training Game Notes Los Angeles Dodgers (16-9-6) @ Kansas City Royals (18-10) Wednesday, April 1, 2015 GUTHRIE SHINES AGAIN IN PEORIA--Just five days after throwing 5.2 scoreless in Peoria Stadium against Seattle, Jeremy Guthrie tossed 6.0 strong frames of 1-run ball en route to a 4-1 victory over the San Diego Padres last night on the other side of Bell Road...the veteran right-hander scattered six hits with a walk and half-dozen strikeouts to wrap-up his spring with a 2-1 record and 2.63 ERA...his next work will be a side session on Sunday in Kauffman Stadium in preparation for his first start of the regular season on April 11 in Anaheim...Kelvin Herrera, Greg Holland and Ryan Madson each contributed a scoreless inning of relief, with Madson earning his second save of the spring...Kendrys Morales, Mike Moustakas and Lorenzo Cain each contributed a pair of hits for the offense as Kansas City won for the fifth time in its last six games and ran the spring mark to 18-11. Monday vs. Chicago White Sox @ Kauffman Stadium (3:10) PLAYERS AND STAFF STEP UP FOR B.A.T.--More than 1,400 players, coaches and managers Jeff Samardzija from all 30 MLB Clubs collectively pledged a record donation of $2,643,195 to the Baseball vs. Assistance Team (B.A.T.) during the organization’s 13th annual Spring Training Fundraising Tour Yordano Ventura to raise money for members of the Baseball Family in need of assistance...the donations will be made through the MLB Payroll Deduction Program, allowing players to provide funding for B.A.T. throughout the course of the season...collective donations from players in the Cactus League ($1,412,290) and Grapefruit League ($1,230,905) set records for each respective Spring Training site, and this year’s tour brought the Spring Training fundraising total to more than $20 million pledged over 13 years. ALL-TIME HIGH 161 GAMES SCHEDULED FOR TV--With the addition of 11 national TV appearances to FOX Sports Kansas City’s 150 regional telecasts, an all-time high 161 Kansas City Royals games are scheduled for television in 2015...FOX Sports announced in March that it will carry 10 games as part of Major League Baseball’s national television package – six on FS1 and four on FOX...the FS1 slate includes the Royals’ first Saturday game, on April 11, an ALDS rematch with the Angels in Anaheim...FS1 also selected the June 18 game vs. Milwaukee, which was previously scheduled for FSKC...in its place, FSKC has added the July 29 game at Cleveland...ESPN will televise the Mother’s Day, May 10 game at Detroit as part of its Sunday Night Baseball package...last season, 156 Royals games were televised – 148 on FSKC, four on FS1, three on FOX and one on ESPN...viewership for Royals telecasts on FOX Sports Kansas City reached an all-time high in 2014, according to Nielsen Media Research ON THE RADIO--The remaining exhibition games, including the two in Houston, can be heard on 610 Sports and the Royals Radio Network, as will all 162 regular season games...Denny Matthews is back for his 47th year in the booth, with Steve Physioc and Stewart, while Ryan Lefebvre will also work periodically on the radio side... POSTSEASON DROUGHT IS OVER--Though the sting of dropping Game Seven of the World Series lingered throughout the offseason, the participation in the Fall Classic represented Kansas City’s first appearance in the postseason since 1985...the Royals did it in dramatic fashion, clinching the playoff berth in Chicago on the final weekend of the regular season and then winning the still talked about Wild Card game over Oakland, rallying from a 7-3 deficit to Jon Lester in the eighth inning to take a 9-8 decision in 12 innings...that triumph would be the first of a Major League record eight consecutive wins to open the postseason, with KC’s first loss coming in Game One of the World Series vs. the Giants...in the interim, the Royals rolled through the Angels in three straight in the ALDS and then swept all four games from Baltimore in the ALCS, with Lorenzo Cain taking MVP honors.
