Message from the Veterans Resource Center Thank you for attending the Porterville College Veterans Monument Ceremony today, Wednesday May 23, 2018. This monument is dedicated to the many men and women who sacrificed their time in serving their country; some even sacrificing their lives. This monument is a collaborative project made possible by the Porterville Rotary Club and Porterville College Foundation. This booklet contains the names of veterans who have bricks located in the monument at the time of this ceremony. However, there are more bricks still available for purchase, so this will be an ongoing project. This booklet also contains the biographies that some veterans and/or their families have submitted. We plan to continue to update this booklet and have it available annually. Sergeant Air Force & National Guard Born in McLaughlin, South Dakota on August 31, 1926, Willard served as a Staff Sergeant in the US Air Force from 1945-1949, and was reactivated from 1949-1952. He married Maribel E Johnson in 1949 with a son born in 1951. He earned a California teaching credential from Cal State Los Angeles in 1953 and began a teaching career in the Porterville School District in 1956. He earned a Masters Degree from Fresno State University in 1970 eventually promoting to a school principal at Pioneer, Olive, and Belleview Schools. He retired to Camp Nelson, California in 1984.
