Martin (4-9, 5.16) vs. Shrimp: RHP Jeff Brigham (3-0, 0.35) Game #80 – Home Game #39 (15-23) Last Game: Jumbo Shrimp right-hander Nick Neidert and Biscuits right-hander Sam McWilliams each pitched eight brilliant innings, but Montgomery first baseman Nate Lowe’s first-inning, two-out RBI double gave his team its fifth straight victory, 1-0, in front of 2,676 on Half-Price Yuengling Monday at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. The Biscuits (7-4 second half, 44-37 overall) took a first-inning lead with an unearned run against Nick Neidert (7-5). Left fielder Thomas Milone hit a leadoff ground ball to first baseman Eric Jagielo, whose error allowed Milone to reach first base. Center fielder Nick Solak grounded into a fielder’s choice, before Lowe hit a two-out RBI double to left field. From the second through seventh innings, Neidert faced the minimum 18 batters, allowing a pair of Solak singles but eliminating the baserunner with a double play each time. In the eighth inning, right fielder Nathan Lukes hit a leadoff single and advanced on a sacrifice and wild pitch before being stranded at third base. Neidert matched a career high with eight innings, allowing four hits and no walks with seven strikeouts and lowering his ERA to 2.81, fourth in the Southern League. Like Neidert, McWilliams (3-4) threw 105 pitches and 69 strikes while striking out seven batters. McWilliams allowed one hit through the first five innings and turned aside the best Jacksonville (3-8, 31-48) scoring threat in the sixth inning. Jumbo Shrimp catcher Rodrigo Vigil led off with a single, and left fielder Brian Miller hit a one-out double to right field to put two runners in scoring position. McWilliams got center fielder Monte Harrison to ground out and second baseman Isan Diaz to fly out, stranding both runners. McWilliams scattered three hits and two walks in his longest career start. Jacksonville left-hander Dylan Lee pitched a perfect top of the ninth inning, before Biscuits right-hander Curtis Taylor struck out Harrison, Diaz and designated hitter Peter O’Brien in a perfect bottom of the inning to record his second save of the series and third in the Southern League this season. Miller has hit safely in 10 of 11 games played for the Jumbo Shrimp since joining the club in the second half, and is currently riding a four-game hitting streak in this series against Montgomery. Additionally, three of the games that he has hit safely he has had multi-hit games. Miller was a 2018 Florida State League Midseason All-Star with Jupiter, where in 62 games hit .324 with 29 runs batted in along with 13 doubles, three triples, and 19 stolen bases. At time of promotion ranked first in the Florida State League in hits (83), third in FSL in average (.324), second in at-bats (256), third in stolen bases (19). Miller was selected by the Marlins just last year in the 2017 draft, picked in the first round. Home Run City: Sunday’s doubleheader featured three massive home runs for the Jumbo Shrimp. First in Game One of the doubleheader, Monte Harrison blasted his 11th home run of the season off the Nimnicht Fair Pole down the left field line. Harrison has homered in the first two series for the Jumbo Shrimp, and is currently second in the organization with 11 home runs this season, just one behind John Silviano’s 12 with High-A Jupiter. Third in the organization is Peter O’Brien, who hit a solo home run in Game Two of the doubleheader. The home run was O’Brien’s ninth with Jacksonville, and like Harrison he also has homered in the first two series of the second half. The other home run was hit by catcher Sharif Othman, a three-run shot in the bottom of the first that capped Jacksonville’s seven-run inning to start Game Two of the doubleheader. It was Othman’s first home run of the year, and his first in a Jacksonville uniform since July 17, 2015. June Is Gone: June was a trying month, with the Jumbo Shrimp going 10-14. Isan Diaz on June for the Jumbo Shrimp, and overall enjoyed a solid month hitting .325 with a home run and 14 RBI, his best month of the season batting for Jacksonville, and he was the only regular batter aside from Brian Miller’s recent run that hit over .300 during the month. See you later, Biscuits: This wraps up the second of three series between the clubs, with Jacksonville winning three of five games in its only trip to Montgomery in early May. The Biscuits will return to the Baseball Grounds from July 23-27. Last season the Jumbo Shrimp struggled against the Biscuits, going 2-8 against Montgomery overall, going 1-4 in series both in Montgomery and in Duval.
