Displaying Images on the SMART Sympodium Anything you can display on your computer monitor will be projected onto the SMART Sympodium when you are connected to the system. For example, you could display: Word Documents Images Pages on the Internet PowerPoint Presentations Statistical or Design Programs Touching the SMART Sympodium screen with the pen stylus is equivalent to clicking on your computer screen using your mouse. Tap once on the Sympodium for a single mouse click; tap twice on the Sympodium for a double click. Drawing on the Sympodium Screen Use the stylus attached to the SMART Sympodium to draw on the screen. Do not write on the SMART Sympodium screen with dry-erase markers or pens. Note that the stylus pen color is changeable. It will write in the color you select by pen color selection buttons located at the top of the Sympodium screen. Also note that the pen and mouse are interchangeable. However if you lay the pen on the screen,the mouse will not function properly. Always rest the pen near the inside bottom of the screen when not in use. Note the buttons at the bottom of the Sympodium panel. These are shortcuts to some of the Sympodium tools. By default, the Floating Tools are not active. To activate them, click on the Start Menu and then "SMART Board Tools". The toolbar will fade in on the left side of the screen. To customize the appearance of your tools: Click on the "Gear" icon at the bottom of the Floating Toolbar. Drag the desired tool onto the bar; likewise, drag the undesired tool away. Using the Floating Tools The Floating Tools can be hidden completely from the screen with the "Hide Floating Tools" button on the SMART Board menu. This feature is interchangeable with the "wrench" symbol on the bottom buttons on the Sympodium panel. The Floating Tools can be hidden partially by clicking on the double arrows on the handle. Customizing Floating Tools To customize the Floating Tools in color, size, and more, open the Control Panel and select SMART Hardware Settings. You can change the color, transparency, thickness, and line style. You can change the eraser thickness, and with mouse/keyboard buttons, you can assign other actions to SMART Board mouse/keyboard buttons. Your customized settings will be kept on your computer until you hit the "Defaults" button. The Floating Toolbar allows you access to a variety of one-touch controls. To launch the Floating Tools, select "Show Floating Tools" from SMART Board Tools menu. This will launch the default Floating Tools. To use Floating Tools, your computer needs to be connected to the SMART Sympodium. If you wish to move the Floating Tools around, grab by the bar located on the top of the Floating Tools, and drag to a desired position. Default options on the Floating Tools are: Capture an Area - when you click this tool the mouse will change; then drag your stylus diagonally across the area of the screen you want to capture to the SMART Notebook. Use Mouse Cursor - this is the default tool. Pen tool - use stylus to create annotations on screen. Highlighter - use your stylus to highlight in yellow. Restore Cleared Page (Undo). Eraser - erase with the stylus. Right-click of the mouse - your next touch on the screen will be a right-click. Use to reach options like customizing or closing the Floating Tools. Using the SMART Notebook There are three ways to get information into the Notebook. 1. You can use the Screen Capture Tools while working with other programs such as Word or PowerPoint. The captured information will be transferred to the SMART Notebook. 2. You can import image and Flash files to the SMART Notebook by using the SMART Notebook's "Insert" menu. 3. You can create annotations while working with the SMART Notebook. Using the Screen Capture Tools One of the screen capture tools is on the default Floating Tools. If you would like to have other screen capturing options, you can customize your Floating Tools and add other options (please refer to "Customizing Floating Tools" above). Another option to capture screen images is to use the Screen Capture Toolbar. To launch the Screen Capture Toolbar, start the SMART Notebook. From the "View" menu, select "Screen Capture Toolbar." Explanation of the Screen Capture Toolbar buttons: Capture an Area - when you click this tool the mouse will change; then drag your stylus diagonally across the area of the screen you want to capture to the SMART Notebook. Window Capture - when you click this tool, select the window you want to capture to the SMART Notebook, and the active window will be shaded. Screen Capture - when you click this tool, the whole screen will be captured to SMART Notebook. Freehand Capture - when you select this tool, the area you have defined will be captured to SMART Notebook. .
