Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil March 24-29, 2014 Itinerary Day 1: Monday, March 24 2014 B Our destination today is Beckley, West Virginia where we will have time to spend at Tamarack, a one-of-a-kind showcase for West Virginia culture, heritage, handcrafts, fine art, regional cui- sine and music. Tamarack features delightful displays of a variety of artisan wares including jewelry, apparel, wood, metal, toys, music and books, pottery, and glass. Day 2: Tuesday, March 25, 2014 B, D After breakfast at the hotel, we travel the remaining distance to Savannah. Following lunch (on your own) we will enjoy a welcome reception at our hotel upon arrival tonight. Dinner tonight will be at the Pirates House, Savannah’s most intriguing & historic restaurant. Since 1753, the Pirate’s House has been welcoming visitors to Savannah with a bounty of delicious food and drink and rousing good times. After dinner, we will hop aboard a trolley for a tour of Savannah’s “historic haunts.” Join us if you dare. Day 3: Wednesday, March 26, 2014 B, L, D Following breakfast at the hotel, we embark on a guided city tour based on the book, “Mid- night in the Garden of Good and Evil. Along the way, spend some quality time with Johnny Mercer, Conrad Aiken, Danny Hansford and many historic structures restored by Jim Williams. Lunch will be at Clancy’s Café (mentioned in the book). We will also visit the Bonaventure Cemetery made famous in the book as well as the “Bird Girl” statue featured on the front cover of the book. Of course we will tour the Mercer house, the scene of the murder retold in the story. We will also meet a resident of Savannah that was mentioned in the book and tour the residence and shop of this local owner. Dinner tonight is at the historic Mrs. Wil- kes boarding house Day 4: Thursday, March 27, 2014 B, D Today we will enjoy a guided Island Tour of St. Simons Island based on the books by Eugenia Price. This tour includes Christ Church, Ft. Frederica, Bloody Marsh, Gascoigne Bluff, Ep- worth, St. Simons Village and the lighthouse plus information about the beloved author Eugenia Price. We will board the Lady Jane for a shrimping experience and snack on fresh sweet Georgia shrimp. Dinner tonight will be at a special local restaurant. Day 5: Friday, March 28, 2014 B We depart for home today with an overnight stop in London, Kentucky Day 6: Saturday, March 29, 2014 B Today we complete our memorable trip with an approximate 5:30 pm return time.
