Toby Case Study

Case Study Toby Carvery, Braehead Client: Mitchell’s & Butlers Location: Braehead, Glasgow Value: £1,100,000 Timescale: 18 Weeks Challenge Pacific had to construct and fit out to an extremely tight deadline a brand new out-of-town restaurant for Mitchells Butlers plc, the UK’s leading operators of pubs and restaurants, whose extensive stable of brand names include All Bar One, O’Neill’s, Browns and Harvester, and whose annual turnover from 1600 outlets runs to nearly £2billion. Pacific are the only only Scottish contractors retained by the Birmingham-based plc, and this contract marked the start of what should be a fruitful relationship with M&B. Pacific had already proved their credentials to the client company through the completion of the upmarket Meadowpark bar and restaurant in Bridge of Allan, Stirlingshire, which threw up a series of demanding requirements, both in terms of contract details and the actual delivery of a project which involved a historically sensitive and significant building. Approach Liaison with partner agencies was key as Pacific drew on their vast experience of delivering to deadline and to budget. The project was commenced towards the end of 2012 and was handed over to the clients in April, 2013 – just 18 weeks later. Tight management of the contract meant that the Toby – the “home of the roast” – was able to live up to its reputation of delivering a high quality, value-for-money dining experience to customers in a stylish and relaxing environment boasting high-quality fittings and other impressive features. Pacific were also conscious of the fact that for the Toby Carvery to hold its own on the fringes of the impressive Braehead Shopping Mall and Retail Park and to appeal to passing trade transiting one of Glasgow’s busiest roundabouts, the building had to strike the correct visual appeal. Results The Toby is now open, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner to hundreds of customers every week, and it is a valuable, welcome and stylish addition to the overall Braehead experience. Pacific can also claim to be the only Scottish contractors serving not just Mitchells & Butlers but burger empire McDonald’s, pub chain JD Wetherspoon and bakery firm Greggs. ! ! www.pacificbuilding.co.uk.
