
Emergency Response Coordination Centre (ERCC) – ECHO Daily Map | 27/3/2015 Chile – Floods SITUATION Situation in CHILE • Heavy rainfall and consequent river 9 deaths overflow, flash floods and landslides affected the area of Atacama desert in the 19 missing north of Chile over 24-25 March. • Atacama and Antofagasta are currently 5 576 people in 23 shelters the most affected regions. A state of emergency is in effect since 26 March for 35 houses destroyed the Atacama Region and the Antofagasta municipality. The Health Ministry has 941 houses partially damaged declared a Sanitary Alert in Copiapó, Tierra Amarilla, Diego de Almagro and Alto del Carmen. • As of 27 March, there are nine dead, 19 missing, 5 576 people in 23 shelters, 35 houses destroyed and 941 partially damaged. Many communities have not been reached yet, as access by road is impossible. The Government has provided ATACAMA 15 helicopters in order to complete DESERT assessments. • In Antofagasta Region electricity has been CHILE: Last 7 days acc. rainfall re-established, but several health facilities (NASA/TRMM) are not operational as they are still flooded or sustained structural damage.
