22/10/2002 Abdullah pleased with developments in MSC Chok Suat Ling CYBERJAYA, Mon. - The Multimedia Super Corridor has not only been successful in attracting investors but has also allowed the Government to provide more efficient service to the people, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi said today. The Deputy Prime Minister, who was pleased with the MSC's rapid progress, added that many world class companies have been set up within the MSC together with local ones. There are now more than 760 companies in the MSC, of which 66 per cent are Malaysian. "I would like to urge Malaysians based overseas to come and do their research work here. In telemedicine, for instance, a Malaysian previously based abroad is involved in stem cell research," he said after leading a group of Cabinet Ministers on a tour of the MSC Flagship Centre and the Centre for Health Innovation and Medical Enterprises. According to Abdullah, several applications have enabled the people to enjoy more quality service. "MyKAD, for instance, provides many facilities, from enabling people to look for job vacancies to checking their water bills and summonses. "It allows people access to information without them physically visiting the Government departments concerned. MyKAD also helps make the teaching and learning process easier," he said, adding that telemedicine was another application that had innumerable benefits. Of the tour, which was hosted by the Multimedia Development Corporation, Abdullah said he was pleased to note the advancements achieved. Abdullah and the ministers visited the MSC Flagship Centre and Chime to explore opportunities for ministries to utilise the facilities. Funded under the Eighth Malaysia Plan, the centres were established to catalyse the growth and diversification of creative applications, as well as spur the growth of telehealth enterprises and industries in Malaysia. Both centres were launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Mahathir Mohamad during the sixth MSC International Advisory Panel meeting on Sept 6.
