Simmone Morrow (Qld) Player number # 192 288 games for Australia A late starter at age 16 to the sport of softball, Simmone Morrow quickly progressed to the national team in only two years. Simmone made her debut in 1997 at the Qantas Challenge and was selected as player number 192 for the Aussie Spirit. During her career, Simmone competed at three Olympic Games (2000, 2004, 2008) and three World Championships (1998, 2002, 2006). Simmone’s 288 international caps place her 6th on the all-time Aussie Spirit top-20 player list. Shewas an outstanding outfielder and speedy lead-off hitter. An extremely tough competitor, Simmone overcame major injuries at critical times to continue her international career. One month before the Olympic trials for the Sydney 2000 Games, she suffered a hand injury from a motorbike accident but recovered from microsurgery to win her place on the team. In June 2007 she ruptured her ACL while playing AFL and required a knee reconstruction. Simmone came back for the 2008 National Championship and National League, and once again overcame serious injury to be selected for the Beijing Games. In Beijing, she was instrumental in kick-starting the Aussie Spirit’s campaign after two early defeats by hitting two home runs in Australia’s first victory of the tournament against home team, China. Simmone retired from international competition following the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
