BOROUGH OF WEST CHESTER PENNSYLVANIA DIANNE HERRIN MUNICIPAL BUILDING MAYOR 401 E. GAY STREET WEST CHESTER, PA 19380 PHONE: (610) 696-1452 Snow Emergency Declaration March 20, 2018 - 6pm Contact: Dianne Herrin, Mayor Office: 610-696-1452 Cell: 610-864-4731 [email protected] With the prediction of a major winter storm expected to result in heavy wet snowfall, with accumulations of more than 12 inches possible, Mayor Dianne Herrin has declared a snow emergency effective 8am Wednesday March 21, 2018. The snow emergency will remain in effect until midnight (12am Thursday March 22, 2018). Vehicles parked along snow emergency routes must be moved or they will be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense. Snow emergency routes are marked with red and white signs and include portions of streets such as High Street, Gay Street, Market Street, Price Street, Chestnut Street, Marshall Street Wayne Street, Hannum Avenue, Church Street, Walnut Street, Miner Street, Rosedale Avenue, S. Franklin Street, E. Nields Street, Lacey Street ,and S. Matlack Street. Residents can verify whether they are on an emergency route by checking signage on the block. The declaration of a snow emergency is announced using all available media including but not limited to the West Chester Borough website, ReadyChesco, WCOJ 1420 AM, WCHE 1520 AM, Philadelphia television stations, the Daily Local News, and The Philadelphia Inquirer as timing permits. Additionally, snow emergency declaration information can be obtained by calling the West Chester Public Works Department 610-696–5282 and the West Chester Police Department 610-696-2700. Our primary concern during a snowstorm is to clear safe and passable lanes on all state highways and Borough streets for emergency vehicles and traffic. Clearing passable lanes is our top priority as long as the snow continues to fall. Page 1 of 2 During a snow emergency, residents are permitted to park free of charge in Borough-owned parking facilities, including the Bicentennial Parking Garage on S. High Street, Chestnut Street Parking Garage at Chestnut and Walnut Streets, Sharpless Street Garage, Matlack Street Garage, New Street Garage, and all municipal parking lots. Parking may return to snow emergency routes after the snowfall has ceased and plowing on the street is complete back to the curb. In the event of a loss of power, there will be a warming center open to the public from 8am to 5pm on Wednesday March 21st at the United Methodist Church of West Chester, 129 South High Street. Warming Center hours will be extended as needed. Following a snow event, residents are reminded to continue moving vehicles in time-restricted areas, as these regulations will be enforced to allow snow clean-up operations to proceed. If the storm does not materialize or moves through the area more quickly than predicted, the emergency will be lifted using these same announcement procedures. Page 2 of 2 .
