Secretary of the Meeting: Kevin Stannard 82a Station Road, Mickleover, Derby DE3 9GJ Tel 0777 1612 789 WELCOME TO THE 89TH NATIONAL BEMROSE TROPHY TRIAL Welcome once again to the Bemrose, one of the most popular trials in the calendar. We know it's popular because, every year, you folk fill the entry list up nice and early! For some of you, it may be your first or second visit but others have been coming back for years and, in some cases, even decades! All you returning regulars, whether riders, supporters or spectators, it's good to see you again – you're part of what makes this trial what it has become. You won't find too much different, but we do have some old favourites back in and even some completely new Groups over around Chrome Hill. If it's blowing a bit fresh and nippy when you're there, take comfort in the thought that the very distinctively-shaped hill is a limestone reef, formed in a warm tropical sea around 300 million years ago, back when this area was south of the equator. Expect the traditional single lap of 30 miles or so. We have the traditional loop out to Kidtor and Staden before returning to the Start. Remember to do Wrights after Staden and not on the way out. Booth Edge follows and then we head out to Dowel Head (new), Etches and Chrome Hill (new). <Insert your own jokes here about “cleaning Chrome/polished ride etc.”>. From there it's back to normal and on to Manor, Robinson's, Hawks Nest, Cut-thorn (new to the Bemrose), Holt, Danebower and Cheeks. From all the organising team we hope the weather is good, that you have the ride you want and that we'll see you again next year. IMPORTANT As many of you will know, the Washgates track has a Traffic Restriction Order (TRO) in force on it: the Bemrose has special exemption to use it today from the Peak District National Park Authority. That exemption is subject to certain conditions that must be followed or we will potentially lose that permission for the future, permission which was hard fought for. The conditions relate to potential threats to the environment (There shall be no discharge of oil or petrol or refuelling within 15m of the watercourse) and to bio-diversity (Bikes, boots and riding gear shall be clean of mud and debris). So please be careful, especially there! Also have a look at http://www.nonnativespecies.org/checkcleandry/biosecurity-for-everyone.cfm FINAL INSTRUCTIONS REMEMBER - DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME STARTS TODAY. DON'T BE LATE! When local standard time is about to reach Sunday, 25 March 2018, 01:00:00 clocks are turned forward 1 hour to Sunday, 25 March 2018, 02:00:00 local daylight time instead. Refreshments will be available at the Start / Finish Area ALL RIDERS MUST SIGN ON AT THE START AND SIGN OFF AT THE END OF THE TRIAL ROUTE The start/finish area will be at Haslin Farm (OS map reference 119/SK 066 692 GB grid). Riders will start in pairs from 9:00am and in numerical order at one-minute intervals. Time penalties as NSC. Competitors will be covered by the ACU blanket insurance scheme. The overall route length is approximately 30 miles and the time limit is 7 hours. All competitors must hand back their riding number at the finish. SCORING This is a STOP ALLOWED trial. Marks will be lost as follows: 0 Clean 1 Footing once 2 Footing twice 3 Footing more than twice 5 Failure 5 When requested by a rider rather than attempt the section 10 Not attempting a section when called upon by an official (in addition to any marks subsequently lost in that section) 10 For missing a section SECTION MARKING The harder/Bemrose route will use Orange bibs and follow normal red/right and blue/left section markers. The easier route will use White bibs and will follow their alternative route shown by yellow/left and white/right markers. The 50/50 route will use Green bibs and follow the Easy route unless the section is marked with a 50/50 sign, in which case they do the harder route in that section. ACCESS AND OTHER USERS This event is routed along or across public rights of way. Competitors must exercise caution and reduce speed accordingly near other path users. Be especially careful near horses. Obey all signs and close all gates. SLOW DOWN, STOP AND SWITCH OFF YOUR ENGINE, IF NECESSARY Please do not re-visit sections after the trial. Access is allowed for the event only and visits by unauthorised riders can seriously endanger the prospects of using these areas in future, especially in the Peak District National Park.
