MEDIA RELEASE 2 September 2021 SEA welcomes its first Rugby Union club - the Western Force - to the #SEAFamily For immediate release The Sports Environment Alliance (SEA) is excited to announce that the Western Force (the Force) has joined the #SEAChange. As a professional entity, the Force has a short but proud history, having been formed in 2004 and making its Super 14 debut in 2006 against the Brumbies at Subiaco Oval. Western Force Manager - Business Operations, Rebecca Roe, said the club was excited to join the Sports Environment Alliance as its first Rugby Union team. “We look forward to not only sharing the good work we have been doing, but also to learning from like-minded industry leaders about how we can do better and achieve a greater impact,” she said. The Western Force has already focused on some important environmental initiatives this year, including the reduction of single use plastics across their operations. “We have done so by changing our team hydration on game days, switching to canned products where possible at our stadium, along with some huge improvements pertaining to our membership fulfilment items and production,” Mrs Roe said. In welcoming the Western Force, SEA CEO Dr Sheila Nguyen said that she is excited to add a new code to the growing family of change makers. “Sport and the environment are inextricably linked, and our aim is to welcome as many clubs and sports from the grassroots to the elite level, in order to tackle the challenges we face and protect planetary health. #NoPlanetNoPlay #SEA_theChange MEDIA RELEASE “The Western Force is the pride of Rugby Union in Western Australia, and we are excited to welcome them, to learn from them, and to support them on their environmental journey to protect our places of play for generations to come,” Dr Nguyen said.
