Since 1959, 59 USAFA classes have produced more than 49,000 graduates who have become leaders of character in the Air Force and throughout society. The Academy has produced 698 general of- ficers— 40 who have earned four stars and five who became the Air Force Chief of Staff. The Long Blue Line also includes 41 astronauts, 37 POWs, 38 Rhode Scholars, business leaders, politicians, doctors, lawyers, airline professionals and more. It is clear our men and women have had a positive impact on their com- munities and on the nation. Your cadet is already a part of this great tradition. The AOG is here to sup- port them and encourage you to share your cadet’s experience through the services and products we provide. Basic Academy Information The Air Force Academy is both a military installation and a univer- sity, essentially operating similarly to other Air Force bases. Academic and athletic operations are overseen by a Superintendent (akin to a university president), Dean, and Director of Athletics. The Com- mandant (no civilian equivalent) oversees the military aspects of your cadet’s training.
