He also plays for the Perth Thundersticks in the Australian Hockey League and his preferred position is forward. Trent made his senior international debut in May 2010 and has gone on to represent Australia in over 100 International matches. He is a key attacker, playing in his preferred position as a forward / striker he has scored over 50 goals in his International career to date. After taking up hockey at the age of 5, Trent progressed quickly, playing representative hockey at Under 18 and Under 21 age levels before going on to play for the Australian junior team when he was 18 years old. He was a member of the National Development Squad for only 6 months before making the breakthrough to the National Senior Squad in 2010 at the age of 19. Trent has mentioned on number occasions that he feels extremely fortunate to be able to travel around the world playing the sport he loves. He is an extremely driven and focussed individual who is continually striving to be the best Hockey player he can be whilst also developing professionally. He is a strong believer in life balance and thinks it is important for all athletes to have interests in working or studying outside of their chosen sport. In his time outside of hockey Trent enjoys a range of other sports including cricket and golf where he is currently a member of the Royal Perth Golf Club. PROUDLY SUPPORTED BY: Professionally, he has worked at Chisholm Catholic College as a Physical Education Assistant. He found this opportunity beneficial as he learned how to balance both a full-time sporting career and full-time work. Trent has an impressive athletic lineage as his father, Grant Mitton represented Australia at the 1984 Olympic Games and his grandfather Don Mitton played for Australia on a tour of New Zealand in 1958. INTERESTING FACTS: • Trent’s father and grandfather played representative hockey for Australia. • He has attended two Commonwealth Games and a won gold medal on both occasions, as well as winning 3 Champions Trophy titles.
