Thursday, March 25, 2021 Monitoring COVID - 19 Variants • The Massachusetts Department of Public Health continues to conduct surveillance for COVID-19 variants of concern including B.1.1.7 (first identified in the UK), B.1.351 (first identified in South Africa) and P.1 (first identified in Brazil). • Surveillance, consisting of genetic sequencing on portions of COVID-19 positive specimens, has been ongoing in a collaboration between the Massachusetts State Public health Laboratory with clinical diagnostic laboratories and academic partners, including the CDC. • Surveillance data indicates that B.1.1.7 is widespread in Massachusetts and is circulating within communities. Data has also identified B.1.351 and P.1 cases without any recent travel. It is critical to do everything possible to keep variants of concern from becoming more widespread. • For the latest on variant cases in Massachusetts and the US, visit the National SARS-CoV-2 Genomic Surveillance Dashboard | CDC. The public health risk reduction measures remain the same. Individuals must continue to wear masks or face coverings while out in public, maintain 6-foot social distancing, stay home when you are sick, and get tested if you have symptoms or are identified as a close contact 3 / Massachusetts Department of Public Health COVID-19 Dashboard – Thursday, March 25, 2021 Count and Rate of Confirmed COVID-19 Cases and Tests Performed in MA by City/Town, January 1, 2020 – March 23, 2021 Average Daily Relative Total Change in Total Case Count Percent Incidence Rate Change in Total Total Tests Positive Percent City/Town Case (Last 14 Positivity per 100,000 Case Tests (Last 14 days) Tests (Last Positivity3 Count Days) (Last 14 days) (Last 14 days)1 Counts2 14 days) Abington 1520 59 23.1 Higher 26621 1450 65 4.48% Higher Acton 816 26 7.8 Lower 38724 2142 27 1.26% Lower Acushnet 1199 31 21.2 Lower 19364 956 34 3.56% Lower Adams 251 8 6.9 Higher 12088 757 8 1.06% Higher Agawam 2329 80 20.1 Higher 55863 2860 96 3.36% Higher Alford <5 0 0 No Change 211 8 0 0% No Change Amesbury 981 18 7.7 No Change 27562 1337 19 1.42% No Change Amherst 2471 152 27.0 Lower 336047 39510 161 0.41% Lower Andover 2409 110 21.8 Higher 86062 4434 119 2.68% Higher Aquinnah <5 0 0 No Change 521 8 0 0% No Change Arlington 1701 64 10.0 Lower 103454 6377 76 1.19% No Change Ashburnham 363 16 18.2 Higher 11864 908 17 1.87% Higher Ashby 150 <5 4.1 Higher 3724 216 2 0.93% Higher Ashfield 28 <5 4.2 Higher 2212 147 1 0.68% Higher Ashland 1372 74 26.8 Higher 38097 2394 83 3.47% Higher Athol 641 37 22.1 Higher 20114 1008 45 4.46% Higher Attleboro 3741 144 22.1 Higher 70007 3726 153 4.11% Higher Data are current as of 11:59pm on 03/23/2021; For populations <50,000, <5 cases are reported as such or suppressed for confidentiality purposes. 1 For the calculations used to delineate Grey, Green, Yellow, and Red, please see table on page 25. 2Number of new cases occurring over the current two-week period (3/7/2021 - 3/20/2021) compared to the previous two-week period (2/28/2021 - 3/13/2021). No change=number of new cases in current two-week period is equal to the number of new cases during the last two-week period. 3Change in percent positivity compared to the previous week’s (3/18/2021) report. No Change= <0.10% difference in the percent positivity. DPH calculates rates per 100,000 population using denominators estimated by the University of Massachusetts Donahue Institute using a modified Hamilton-Perry model (Strate S, et al. Small Area Population Estimates for 2011 through 2020, report, Oct 2016.) As of 11/5/2020, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health is using the 2019 population estimates, the most current available data. Please note: Data for these tables are based on information available in the DPH surveillance database at a single point in time. Case counts for specific cities and towns change throughout the day as data cleaning occurs (removal of duplicate reports within the system) and new demographic information (assigning cases to their city or town of residence) is obtained. 4 Massachusetts Department of Public Health COVID-19 Dashboard – Thursday, March 25, 2021 Count and Rate of Confirmed COVID-19 Cases and Tests Performed in MA by City/Town, January 1, 2020 – March 23, 2021 Average Daily Relative Total Change in Total Case Count Percent Incidence Rate Change in Total Total Tests Positive Percent City/Town Case (Last 14 Positivity per 100,000 Case Tests (Last 14 days) Tests (Last Positivity3 Count Days) (Last 14 days) (Last 14 days)1 Counts2 14 days) Auburn 1477 48 20.8 Lower 33246 2186 51 2.33% Lower Avon 455 24 39.2 No Change 7608 442 26 5.88% Higher Ayer 779 22 19.4 Higher 17929 1001 23 2.30% Higher Barnstable 3540 405 64.6 Higher 67107 4235 432 10.20% Higher Barre 279 10 12.8 Lower 7612 449 13 2.90% Lower Becket 55 <5 8.0 No Change 2570 171 2 1.17% Lower Bedford
