2017 National Trophy Rifle Matches Results Camp Perry, Ohio www.TheCMP.org First Shot Kicks Off National Matches By Patrick Pfanner, Staff Reporter, Sandusky Register PORT CLINTON — A loud bang rang out as a bullet fired out of a rifle and zipped down range at Camp Perry. Major General John C. Harris Jr. fired the ceremonial first shot Monday morning to offi- cially kickoff to this year’s National Matches. The matches, a five-week shooting com- petition, features national and international marksmen. The marksmen use both short- and long-range firearms to shoot targets at varying distances at the gun ranges at Camp Perry. The National Matches are organized by the National Rifle Association and the Civilian Marksmanship Program. “Program records show the number of competitors who normally attend the National Matches averages out to more than 6,500 each year,” said Larry Fletcher, director of Lake MG John C. Technology may have changed, but the shooters are unchanged.” Harris lauded Camp Perry’s historic facility and the thousands of shooters who make the competition possible.
