Rory Lewis Biography Sir Ian McKellen By Rory Lewis, 2019 © Rory Lewis Rory Lewis has been creating corporate, political and celebrity portraits for over a decade, with sitters including Sir Ian McKellen, Sir Patrick Stewart, Prime Minister David Cameron, William Shatner, Sir John Major and Natalie Dormer. Seven of his portraits have been acquired by the National Portrait Gallery in the past 4 years. Saturday 23rd Feb (Day One) Workshop Schedule 11.00 – 11.20 Introduction and overview of the aims of the workshop, with plans for the two days Tea and coffee will be provided 11.15 – 12.00 Rory will show and talk about his work Talk: Power Portraiture Participants to talk about their personal work 12.00– 13.00 Visit to the Gallery Talk about lighting Participants to take notes and return to the studio for group discussion on favourite images 13.00– 13.30 Lunch break 13.30 – 14.30 A masterclass in camera techniques including – Holding / positioning of camera ISO use, use of different lenses and depth of field Set-up of one or two lighting options, including use of different light applicators Tips on how to conduct a portrait session - observing the model and tips Advantage and disadvantage of digital photographic (right tools for the right job) Demonstration of portrait session with model 14.30 – 16.30 Each participant to have individual shoot with models 16.30– 17.00 Review of the day’s work and preparation for Day 2 17.00 Workshop ends * Please note that this schedule is for guidance only and may be subject to change Sunday 24 Feb (Day Two) Workshop Schedule 11.00 – 11.15 Welcome back and plans for the day Tea and coffee will be provided 11.15 – 12.00 Rory pick of five shots from Day 1, critically looking at what works and why– light, composition, editing etc. 12.00 – 13.30 Masterclass from Rory covering - how to plan for a pop up studio portrait session how to set up a more complex studio lighting Each participant to have individual shoot with models 13.30 – 14.00 Lunch break 14.00– 16.00 Each participant to have individual shoot with models 16.00 – 17.00 Group critique of material from the portrait session Final group discussion and suggestions for next steps in attendees’ development 17.00 Workshop ends 17.50 Gallery closes * Please note that this schedule is for guidance only and may be subject to change .
