is an inter-disciplinary, industry centric design institute with the vision ‘life through design’. its mission is to create a global hub that educates, promotes and supports development through design. it has been conceived by highly motivated professionals who understand the impact design can have on society. in order to enhance the design quotient of the country, tdv has global partners as institutes and centres that form a pool of faculty and students who work closely with industries and professionals. tdv houses this educational initiative encompassing different disciplines such as graphics, industrial and fashion design, interior architecture and trans-cultural studies at the under graduate and post-graduate levels. the unique opportunity to interface with the industry- the archohm studio and other initiatives within the eco-system helps bridge the usual gap that exists between academics and industry. tdv is an active incubation centre to promote entrepreneurship and to cultivate a much needed holistic eco-system of design thinking and solutions. it serves as the asia campus in india for its french partner- school, l’école de design nantes, atlantique. design factory india, or dfi is a multi-disciplinary experience design firm. it designs and executes a vast range of works both in terms of scale and nature. these extend from designing strategies to sculpting graphics. as a gesture of acknowledgement of its relationship with ao, dfi designed and executed the ‘archohm at 15’ exhibition. thus, ao found itself becoming a client to a company within its eco-system. the name design-factory itself is thought provoking; for it instantly conjures up a de-glamourized image of a production factory with an assembly-line of designs and designers! however the nomenclature can be justified as an acknowledgement of a protocol, a sequential set of activities that are mandatory in the creation of meaningful design. any core design process is seen as a meandering wave that connects research, analysis, ideation, and realization. apart from design projects, dfi also indulges in providing ‘food for thought’ through ‘dtours’- curated design travel to places of design relevance, dtalks- listening to people of relevance and through compact product development wokshops. archoforum Archoforum is an intense international design workshop on live Archohm projects that happens at least twice a year. The idea is to establish an international forum of architectural design and practice. 1 This cross-cultural dialogue enriches 5 the design process with a diversity of 1- bihar museum at patna with coop himmelblau ideas stemming from different cultures 2- chak ganjeria city masterplan with topotek1 to produce high quality design. 3- cancer hospital at lucknow with broadway malyan 4- mughal museum at agra with david chipperfield architects Via means of internet-based 5- jm park at lucknow with topotek1 communication, and bi-annual 6- oranje castle at lucknow with mvrdv meetings, teams from Archohm 7- agra city branding with fabrique travels to Europe to work with their 8- design village curriculum building with tu delft European counterparts. Alternately, 2 the partner teams also travel to India. 6 These meetings take the form of intense design workshops, brainstorming sessions, where particular projects are tackled. The international interaction is put forward as an experiment. Arising from a common desire to interact with 3 India and with architecture as a 7 common platform of communication,it is conceived as an opportunity to widen horizons and explore design possibilities. “cross-cultural collaborations.” 4 8 CG City with TOPOTEK Cancer Hospital with JPN museum with HG Merz BROADWAY MALYAN current Patna Museum with Lucknow Castle with MVRDV COOP HIMMELBLAU 2008 cultural medical social architecture lighting institutional mixedmedical use
