WELCOME A Message from the Coach Welcome to JMU women’s soccer. As the program’s first and only head coach, I am extremely proud of the history, tradition and reputation we have built here. Our players excel in the classroom, on the field and ultimately in the real world. Our schedule is always among the toughest because good players de- serve to test their talents against the best. JMU women’s soccer contin- ues to be one of the top programs in Virginia, in the CAA, the Mid-Atlantic region and in the nation… that is always our goal. Nestled in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley, JMU boasts tranquility, safety and a community that is committed to JMU athletics. The university has established itself with national rankings in many academic categories and is always evolving to chase its goal of being the best undergraduate univer- sity in the nation. This is a very dynamic time to be associated with JMU women’s soccer. I hope you will join us for an exciting season of soccer. Sincerely yours, Dave Lombardo Head Soccer Coach 2012 Schedule August 27 Northeastern*, 7 p.m. 9 at Virginia Tech (scrimmage), 6 p.m. 30 Hofstra*, 1 p.m. 12 Virginia Commonwealth (scrimmage), 6 p.m. 19 Marshall, 7 p.m. October 4 George Mason*, 7 p.m. JMU/Fairfield Inn by Marriott Invitational 7 at Towson*, 1 p.m. 24 Hofstra vs. Temple, 5 p.m. 11 at North Carolina Wilmington*, 7 p.m. JMU vs. Georgetown, 7:30 p.m. 14 at Georgia State*, 12 noon 26 Georgetown vs. Hofstra, 11 a.m. 18 Delaware*, 5 p.m. JMU vs. Temple, 1:30 p.m. 21 Drexel*, 1 p.m. 31 Pennsylvania, 7 p.m. 28 CAA First Round (#3 & #4 seeds host) September November 2 CAA Semifinals (#1 seed hosts) Virginia Nike Classic 4 CAA Championship (#1 seed hosts) 7 Richmond, 2 p.m. 9 Virginia , 2:30 p.m. Home games in boldface * Colonial Athletic Association opponent 14 at Navy, 7 p.m. NCAA Tournament dates available at NCAA.com 16 Charlotte, 1 p.m. Game dates and times are subject to change. This is so enjoyable because we get to hang out and eat a home-cooked meal. It shows how dedicated everyone, including the parents, is to JMU soccer. It’s always a great time and relaxing. - Dana O’Brien (‘13) • When we were down 3-1 to Hofstra, we all fought hard and tied it 3-3 and won it 4-3 in overtime. To do something like that takes a lot of heart and a lot of spirit. - Katie Hyland (‘15) • Before each game, after the coaches give us a pregame talk, all the girls come together and say a chant that gets us pumped up for the game and reminds us that we are a team and a family. - Ellen Forrest (‘15) • We have a team donkey that the coach gives to the player who has done or said the dumbest thing. The donkey is passed around throughout the season and sometimes the coach is even the donkey recipient. - Stephanie Hamilton (‘15) • We sing and play funny games to get us through the 10-15 minute freezing cold ice baths required in preseason. - Olivia Tomoff (‘14) • We make many hilarious team videos. -- Sam Lofton (‘12) 2011 JMU Soccer - 4 THIS IS JMU SOCCER My Favorite Memory from Last Season • Our spring break trip to Costa Rica -- Isabel Chang (‘13) • Coming back from a rough start against Hofstra and winning the game in overtime. - Kelly Abt (‘15) • Traveling up to Boston; the road trip and restaurants were really fun. - Olivia Tomoff (‘14) • When we came back and beat Hofstra in double overtime 4-3 at their stadium. - Kelly Germain (‘13) The Best Non-Soccer Part of JMU • The school spirit. Everyone is so enthusiastic about JMU and truly believes it’s the best school in the world. It’s our own utopian world set apart from the real world. - Shannon Rano (‘15) • The food, people, and the beautiful views around campus. - Amalya Clayton (‘13) 2011 JMU Soccer - 5 ATHLETES Kelly Germain Amalya Clayton Redshirt Sr. Midfielder Sr. Forward McLean, Va.
