GOVERNMENT OF INDIA HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO:3995 ANSWERED ON:06.08.2014 SANSKRIT LANGUAGE INSTITUTIONS Saraswati Shri Sumedhanand Will the Minister of HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT be pleased to state: (a) the number of institutions/organisations functioning in the country for promotion of Sanskrit language; (b) the number of students studying/carrying out research in these institutions; and (c) the details of the funds spent for the said promotion programme during the last three years, institution-wise, State-wise? Answer MINISTER OF HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT (SMT. SMRITI ZUBIN IRANI) (a) There are three Deemed to be Universities, ten State Universities and one autonomous body to promote Sanskrit language, which are as under : 1 Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, New Delhi. Deemed University 2 Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha, New Delhi. Deemed University 3 Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha, Tirupati (Andhra Pradesh). Deemed University 4 Shri Jagannath Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya, Puri (Orissa). State University 5 Shri Shankaracharya University of Sanskrit, Kalady (Kerala). State University 6 Sampoornanand Sanskrit University, Varanasi (Uttar Pradesh). State University 7 Kammeshwar Singh Darbhanga Sanskrit University, (Bihar). State University 8 Kavi Kulguru Kalidas Sanskrit University (Maharashtra). State University 9 Jagadguru Ramanandacharya Rajasthan Sanskrit University, State University Jaipur (Rajasthan). 10.Shree Somnath Sanskrit University, Junagarh (Gujarat). State University 11.Karnataka Sanskrit University, Karnataka. State University 12.Uttarakhand Sanskrit University, Uttarakhand. State University 13.Maharishi Panini Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya, Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh State University 14.Maharishi Sandipani Rashtriya Veda Vidya Pratishthan, Ujjain Autonomous Body (Madhya Pradesh). (b) During the year 2012-13, there are a total of 1,94,220 students studying in these universities, out of which 1,425 students are carrying out research. (c) The details of the funds spent for the said promotion programme by this Ministry/UGC during the last three years, institution-wise is at Annexure-I. The details of funds spent State-wise is at Annexure-II. .
