ART MASTERPIECE Frank Lloyd Wright (1867-1959) Fallingwater (1935) In Art Masterpiece today, your child learned about F.L. Wright, the American architect, interior designer, writer and educator. Students saw a slideshow of some of his buildings including, Gammage Auditorium at ASU and his home, Taliesin West in Scottsdale. Wright believed in designing structures which were in harmony with humanity and its environment, a philosophy he called Organic Architecture. We worked on a two point perspective architectural drawing with watercolor pencils, and discussed terms like horizontal and vertical lines and vanishing point. The class also listened to some pieces of music from American Minimalist composer, Philip Glass (1937-) who describes himself as a composer of "music with repetitive structures." Glass is a prolific composer who went to the Juilliard School of Music and in 1964, received a Fulbright Scholarship to Paris, where he studied with the eminent composition teacher Nadia Boulanger.
