The parish is disadvantaged by poor transport links.” “Roads are awful. New builds not enough parking, creang danger.” “I am a widow who has lived in Shipton for many years. I do not drive and have no access to transport. I have no family and rely on public transport. I fear before long I am going to be forced out of my house, mainly through the lack of a bus service. Four generaons of family have lived here and used the bus service. I shall be so SAD to leave. Taxis are £15 each way to Cheltenham.” “How about a cycle lane on the A40? I'd use it, along with others I'm sure” “Work gives no opFon for public transport. Rather live here and commute than alternave.”“Cannot drive due to health. The bus service is very poor. Leave Shipton at 9.30 and return at 12.45. We get to Andoversford and take bus from there in all winds and weathers.” “I have two teenagers that need to get to school and work and there is no bus service for either. They would like to be independent but..” There were 5 bus users (8% of replying households). Lift sharing Car-sharing phone apps like Licshare (right) allow people to idenFfy others doing the same journey, and share the costs. Bledington, for example, has a volunteer transport scheme with 15 volunteer drivers, covering around 5000 miles per year. They receive a council grant of £800 to run the scheme, and passengers pay a fee of 45p per mile to a central fund from which drivers’ costs are reimbursed. Please let us know (by leaving your details) if you are without transport and need a lic, if you would be willing to offer a lic to others in the village or, best of all, if you would be interested in seng up a community transport scheme. Buses There are regular bus services to Cheltenham from Shipton Oliffe, from the Frogmill bus stop and from Andoversford. The trip takes approximately 30 minutes from Shipton Oliffe to Cheltenham. The 801 bus stops at Charlton Kings, Cheltenham Hospital, Royal Well and Rail staon. From Shipton Oliffe to Cheltenham it costs £2 single, £3.60 return for a standard adult fare. The Fmetables are pictured above, can be found at the bus stops, or can easily be found online. GCC have quoted an approximate cost of £50,000, of which the parish would be expected to raise 50%, in order to install a pedestrian crossing over the A40 and a wider footway to the bus-stop (and Frogmill and Sports field). A bus shelter at the Frogmill stop would cost between £5000 and £10000,. 853 Oxford –Andoversford-Cheltenham- 804, Shipton Oliffe-Andoversford 801, Frogmill-Andoversford-Cheltenham Gloucester Once daily Nine Fmes daily 3 Fmes daily Cycling Cycle routes into Cheltenham The main barrier to cycling is the perceived danger of the main road (green line on map). An alternave route, via Andoversford and Dowdeswell (blue line) sFll uses part of the A436 the A40. There is also a steep hill up to Dowdeswell from the Reservoir. Cycling via Syreford and Whington (pink line) involves Ham hill Green-A40 or Harp Hill. Blue – indirect but maybe less danger Pink- big hills What about a cycle track from Charlton Kings to Andoversford? Despite the growth of Andoversford, GCC has no plans for a safe route between Andoversford and Cheltenham. Gloucestershire Highways have esFmated the cost of a cycle path to be in excess of £1million. There are cycleable paths from Charlton Kings to Dowdeswell reservoir and from Andoversford to the Whington bend. The cost of addiFonal path, and a crossing, between the ends of these two paths would be less but the exisFng paths would not fit Dept of Transport cyclepath standards. .
