Water from different low lying areas started receding. Most of the rivers are flowing below their respective danger levels and those which are flowing above danger level, started falling. Though water is receding, next one month might be crucial and alarming for sudden repetition of flood situation, for which adequate cautionary steps to overcome any flood situation should be undertaken very carefully and with proper priority. FLOOD, RAINFALL AND RIVER SITUATION SUMMARY Flood Outlook • The prevailing flash flood situation in the northern and the north-eastern districts are likely to improve further. • Inundation situation of low laying areas in the districts of Serajganj, Tangail, Rajbari, Faridpur, Madaripur Shariatpur, Manikganj, Munshiganj and Dohar & Nababganj of Dhaka are expected to begin improving slowly by next 24 to 48 hrs. The Tista is flowing below its danger level. Low lying areas of 6 unions of Pirganj upazila submerged as some part of the embankment of the Karatoa breached near Dinajpur-Rangpur district border. Presently the flood situation of these unions is improving gradually. District administration is observing the situation very carefully. The district has no demand of relief materials. Nilphamari 3875 families of 8 unions of Dimla upazila were affected by water inundation due to excessive rainfall. In addition, 18 families were affected by river erosion. All the rivers are of the district are flowing below their respective danger level. Currently the flood situation is normal. District administration is observing the situation very carefully. Relief has been distributed among flood affected people of Dimla and Jaldhaka upazila. Along with GR rice, GR cash and HB grant District administration requested 500 pcs of lungi. Gaibandha Water logging situation created in low lying areas of Sundarganj, Gobindaganj, Saghata, Fulchhari and Sadar upazila due to heavy rainfall and increased river water. The Kartoa is flowing above danger level at Katakhali but started falling. Damage information of Sadullapur, Sundarganj and Gobindaganj is as follows: affected unions-24, family-4804, people-15345, households-full-250, partial-257, crop-full-1084 hec., partial-5952 hec., death-1, roads-full-2.53 km, partial-11.5 km,embankment-6 km. Besides fish hatchery/farm, ponds and hand operated tube-wells were damaged. Relief is distributed among affected people. District administration informed that no flood situation prevailed, but some low lying areas outside of embankment have been inundated. Administration is kept alert for any kind of situation and has taken all the necessary cautionary steps to face flood situation. Neither any relief material distributed nor there is any demand for distribution yet. Pabna District administration informed that the overall flood situation of the district is quite normal and all rivers are flowing below their respective danger levels. The water level rose due to upstream torrential and heavy rain in this district. Low lying and char areas of Sujanagar, Sadar, Iswardi, Bhangura and Faridpur upazila were inundated due to rising of river water level and heavy rainfall and some vegetable fields are damaged. To lessen the the affect of sudden flood and river erosion, district and upazila administration already have taken all necessary steps. Along with GR rice, GR cash and HB grant, 13 bundles of CI sheets are in stock to distribute when needed. Kurigram District Relief Office informed that currently no flood situation prevailed over the district. The Dharla, Brahmaputra, Tista, Dhudhkumar and all other rivers are flowing below their respective danger level. The Dahrla crossed its danger level due to sudden heavy rainfall but went back below danger level as raining stopped. District administration informed that 11000 families fully and 20000 families partially affected. Homestead of 5000 families among fully affected are lost due to river erosion and river erosion is continuing. Each of some families was provided with 20 kg GR rice and 2000 BDT with help of CLP and local NGOs. District administration requested for GR rice, GR cash and house building grant. Lalmonirhat Flood situation came back almost to normal condition. All the rivers are flowing below respective danger level. Onrush of water from the hilly regions of India triggered by torrential rains caused the rise in the water level of the rivers and 5 upazilas were badly affected. Some families on both sides of the river were affected partially and fully. 25888 families of 17 unions were affected. Damaged crops – 12490 (partial), households – 296 (full), 3620 (partial), roads – 126.5 km (partial), educational/religious institution – 3 (partial). Besides GR rice and GR cash, 3500 kg flattened rice, 765 kg molasses, 2000 packets of saline, 2500 pcs WPT distributed among affected people. District administration requested 5,00,000 BDT for house building grant. Joypurhat District Relief Office informed that no flood situation prevailed over the district. All rivers are flowing below their respective danger level. 15000 hectors of crop land inundated due to heavy rainfall and onrush of water from upstream. Besides, 300 ponds submerged and fishes washed out. Damage information: affected families- 11875, people-45833, crops-9813 hectors (full), 12554 hectors (partial), households-89 (full), 1569 (partial), roads-35 km (earthen), 153 km (paved), educational institution-12 (partial), embankment-15 km, bridge/culvert-4. The sum of damage is equivalent to 8 crore 35 lakh BDT. 200 cans of biscuits, 10000 pcs of saree, 10000 pcs of lungi, 100 bundles of CI sheets distributed among affected people along with GR rice, GR cash and House Building grant. In addition to GR rice, GR cash and HB grant, district administration requested for 200 cans of biscuits, 10000 pcs of saree and 10000 pcs of lungi and 100 bundles of CI sheets. Bogra The Jamuna, the Bangli and the Karatoa are flowing below danger level. Water is continuing to recede at the rivers. No information regarding damage received from Sariakandi, Dhunat and Sonatola till the time of reporting. District administration is kept alert for any kind of situation. Naogaon The Atrai is flowing below danger level. Few amon crops have been inundated due to the damaged embankment at sutkigasa and vangajangal of Atrai upazila. At present Water is receding. No other upazila reported any damage. Sylhet The Kushiyara is flowing 33 cm above danger level at Sheola and 40cm at amalshid point. Surma is flowing below danger level at Sylhet and Kanaighat point and continuing to recede. Along with GR rice, GR Cash and House building Grant District administration has stock of 815 pcs sharee and 220 pcs lungi. There is no flood situation reported yet. Sunamganj Water level at Sunamganj started falling and at presents flowing 16 cm above danger level after receding 13cm last day. Due to heavy rainfall Tahirpur upazila is experiencing water logging. Yet there is no demand for distribution of relief materials.
