Head, inner margins and tips of forewings black; thorax and base of forewings reddish orange. Underside of body tinted with yellow or green and has red and black markings. **Egg** Ovoid; chorion opalescent, with regular hexagonal reticulations; four, five or six evenly spaced micropylar chorionic processes on cephalic pole. No true operculum. **First instar** Lateral margins of thorax carinate; longitudinal ecdysial suture extending along midline from anterior margin of pronotum to posterior margin of metanotum. **Second instar** Thorax sclerotised regions fuscorufous; longitudinal ecdysial suture extending to posterior margin of metanotum; lateral edges of pleura unsclerotised. **Third instar** Wing buds just discenible as small bulges on mesonotum and metanotum. **Fourth instar** Wing buds evident as posteriorly directed projections. **Fifth instar** Fore wing bud black and extending to middle of abdominal tergum; hind wing buds completely covered by fore wing buds, translucent fuscorufous, fading towards centre of wing bud. **References** - Fletcher, M.
