July 26, 2021 There was a regular meeting of the Bad Axe Board of Education at 7:15 p.m. on Monday, July 26, 2021in the Bad Axe High School Media Center, 200 N. Barrie Road., Bad Axe, MI. 1. Roll call — Members Present: Eskau, Hass, Guza, McVey, Checkley, Prescott, Rifenbark. Members Absent: 2. Moved by Rifenbark, supported by Hass to approve the minutes from the June 21, 2021 Truth in Taxation and Budget Hearing. All yes. Motion carried. 3. Moved by Prescott, supported by McVey to approve the minutes from the June 21, 2021 regular meeting. All yes. Motion carried. 4. Mr. Newland gave a brief update on the plans being made for reopening school in the fall. 5. Public Comment — James Dean spoke to the Board in regards to the meeting minutes that are on the school website. 6. Moved by Hass, supported by Prescott to approve hiring Kelly Durr as the new principal for Ascent High School. All yes. Motion carried. 7. Moved by Prescott, supported by Hass to approve hiring Terri Maurer for the Kindergarten teacher position. All yes; Eskau abstained. Motion carried. 8. Moved by McVey, supported by Checkley to approve the authorized signatures for the purpose of district business as follows for the 2020-2021 school year: Zac Eskau, Jim Hass, Ken Guza,, Denise McVey, Maria Prescott, Nick Checkley, Kristen Rifenbark, Melodie Kociba, and Gregory Newland. All yes. Motion carried. 13. Moved by Hass, supported by Prescott to approve Gregory M. Newland as CFO and to be authorized to make transactions as outlined in the authorized signature letter. Moved by Checkley, supported by Guza to go into closed session at 7:37 p.m. to discuss the tentative agreement with the International Union of Operating Engineers.
